I have been working at Celerant Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting and challenging work environment with alot of great travel opportunity 100% of the time.

    Cons

Do not match salary to location/projects that well. Hours are not based on client but rather they are built into the contract. You may find yourself working many hours and day's longer than client.

    Advice to Management

Match pay with locational work not just a little bit of uplift but rather to the industry standard for the client. Also work around a client based schedule as well.

    Pros

Overall, Celerant is very good at implementation management consulting - which differs a lot from the mainstream advisory (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.) that most consulting firms do. Celerant knows in a very clear way the value it brings to clients.

    Cons

Implementation work is a tough sell - does not happen everyday, the client has to be willing to implement and support the initiative, the ticket is too high (1MM+) and due to all this is very cyclical in nature. Celerant does not have the analytical skill base in-house to provide more sophisticated solutions to clients - overall, folks are very operationally focused and lack business acumen and financial acumen/understanding.

    Advice to Management

Focus on more advisory related consulting assignments and build volume from this - take advantage of the breadth of knowledge that the firm has on operational issues and advise clients in this field, rather than be constantly trying to sell implementation work, build volume on smaller ticket advisory work. Also, build the team's skills base and provide more sophisticated solutions, rather than the typical maintenance & production workstreams.

    Pros

    1) Compensation is competitive 2) Strong, close knit culture 3) Focus is on implementation consulting - you get to see the fruits of your labours 4) Opportunity for international exposure

    Cons

    1) We tend to be solely focused on operational issues - we are less adept at being thought leaders, providing our clients more strategic advice 2) Travel is brutal - 5 days a week, if not more 3) Quality of colleagues is hit/miss - I believe the firm is working to improve on this by weeding out poor performers

    Advice to Management

Have the courage to help clients develop solution outside of our traditional sweet spots

    Pros

Celerant consulting offers a wide range of opportunities for professional growth. They operate in a wide range of industries, functions and geographies. They are actively expanding their operations globally, and this is a particular draw in a down economy. The people at Celerant are also quite smart in their particular areas of expertise. They're also very down to earth, not the Mckinsey type consultants. Everyone's extremely friendly and willing to help you out. Travel is 100%, and there's a lot of opportunity for domestic and international assignments. You will experience the whole gamit from small town motels to five-star luxury hotels.

    Cons

Celerant is very operationally focused. Although there is some "strategy" involved, much of the work is quite operational. You're interacting with plant managers and engineers versus sales exec at HQ. Celerant has a little too much of a hands on culture. People tend to be doers versus thinkers, and although this is helpful sometimes, you tend to just go ahead and do it versus thinking it though first. The culture is to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission. Travel can be very heavy at times, and you must be the independent type or the type that will let go of family and friends for weeks or even months.

    Advice to Management

We've come a long way but we still have a lot of work to do. Don't get lazy and keep improving the way we do business.
