Vision is focused on $$ not purpose.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Celestica full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFor younger workers who are willing to sacrifice work/life balance, there are lots of opportunities.

ConsNo clear vision provided for the employees to rally around, the values are words on the wall and not truly followed at the senior levels of the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement does not value experience. Every year there is a restructuring to cull out the more mature employees with many years of experience. The end result is the loss of significant "tribal knowledge" year after year. Employees spend more time getting up to speed than trying to focus on breakthrough performance.

Engineer

Engineering Manager (Current Employee)
Boulder, CO

I have been working at Celestica full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people to work with in the trenches. Rarely do you experience hostile or conflict oriented individuals.

ConsManagement is a bit disconnected. What the CEO says and what his reports do are 180 degrees apart. Not sure why?

No stability, unpaid overtime for contractor, management is 200% lost

Design Engineer Specialist (Former Employee)
Ontario, CA

I worked at Celestica as a contractor for less than a year

ProsFree coffee for front office workers (without General Manager catching you getting coffee)

ConsAll management are native Spanish speakers. Layoff comes without notice and you are out of work the same day. No sense of stability at all. Management are clueless about what to do to acquire new business or satisfy existing customers. Huge favoritism given to Spanish speakers.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a MBA from a top school or just resign and hire some real management to run the place.

Visionary CEO, difficult industry

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Celestica

ProsGood people to work with, visionary thinking about how to service the customer. Fair salary and benefit package in US.

ConsVery difficult industry to be successful in. Competition has available capacity, price pressure is fierce, frequent moves of work from higher to lower cost geographies (and subsequent layoffs)

Advice to Senior ManagementGet on board the CEOs message, change has to happen faster

Stay away at all costs!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Austin, TX

I have been working at Celestica full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFellow employees. Good mid-level people keeping this site afloat in spite of the weak senior (Director and above) Management.

ConsManagement. The current GM (position is a revolving door - 1-2 yrs tenure at best) is contemptuous of the personnel at the site. In addition he has little to no practical knowledge of Contract Manufacturing; his hiring as GM was based on success in a different business environment; one with little application to his current role. The Directors are prime manifestations of the "Peter Principle" - promoted well above their capabilities. They occupy their positions solely based on their ability to kowtow to the GM. This cadre of incompetents couldn't manufacture success if the company monopolized the industry. Management's latest strategy is filling mid-level management positions with clueless clones of the Directors.

Advice to Senior ManagementAustin Management - Quit! Leave! Replace yourselves.
Corporate Management - quit turning a blind eye to the disaster in Austin. Site has potential if only there was real leadership directing it.
