Some good people to work with but management leaves something to be desired.

    Production Associate (Current Employee)
    Beverly, MA

ProsDecent bonus at the end of the year. In general I enjoy the people I work with. Company seems to have a stable business plan and will have longevity. Good work/life balance and the hours can be flexible if need be.

ConsThe management across the company is very poor. There are to many scientists who have been moved into upper management who have no idea what they are doing. The company is also very bottom heavy with few positions to move up into. Also there are many people who work at the company who have no business being there. Management seems unwilling to set expectations and hold people to them which can be very frustrating.

Advice to Senior Management#1: Go to management training!
There are many effective managers at CST but there are too many that have no idea what is going on. There needs to be a clear outline as to what you want your group to look like and how they can function as an effective team. Also there should not be two sets of standards for people who have the same job title. This creates friction within the group and resentment.

While the perks are great, if you are not one of the favorites, look out!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Danvers, MA

ProsGood perks like bonuses, summer and "holiday" parties, raffles, etc.

ConsFavoritism (and nepotism) abounds. Middle management ranges from great to deplorable. Like adademia, the "tenured" folks can do no wrong and advancement is very slow.

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to the people in the trenches and don't be so laissez-faire.

Great company to work for, focused on quality and employees

    Product Scientist III (Former Employee)
    Danvers, MA

ProsCST has a great work environment, friendly coworkers, good benefits, and an up to 30% performance-based bonus each year.

ConsThere are too many scientists in management, and not enough trained managers. The company and its employees could really benefit if the group leaders, heads, etc. got significantly more management training. Groups and departments could also benefit by getting new blood from outside, instead of always promoting from within.
