    I worked at Centene

    Pros

Big company with individuality within each health plan. Good experience overall. Lots of growth. Confident they will continue to grow.

    Cons

Sometimes I felt they chose to grow before the foundation was fully settled. The growth part is amazing but the opportunity to get things right before moving on was shirt lived.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Never lose sight of the bottom rung employees. I worked in management and saw some upper management lose sight of this.

I have been working at Centene full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you can pass a series of tests, and don't smoke, the health and dental plans are cheap and generous.
Facilities are well kept. Computer hardware issues are fixed fast

    Cons

If you make an error on anything affecting another group that's a strike.
No Wifi for employees. Not a whole lot of transparency.
If you are used to the suburbs, welcome to downtown Clayton (free parking).
Two 11 story office towers had to stay home a day due to Ferguson protests.
401k matching is generous but takes 5 years to vest your first dollar.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work/Life Balance tilted to work. After working three 15 hour days four months ago, my boss mentioned he would take care of our 'work/life balance'.. Still waiting

I have been working at Centene

    Pros

    flexible schedule
    cafeteria
    day care center on site
can listen to music while working

    Cons

Mandatory overtime is 10 hours are more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a better system to work claims on. Get better internet provider. Stick to your decisions you will never figure it out while you keep flip flopping back and forth and not giving enough time to see the results.

    Pros

Nice facilities and a beautiful campus
    Good benefits

    Cons

No one here really understands healthcare. Not even the CEO.
Be prepared to be used and tossed around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No plan for growth. None at all. Fly by the seat of your pants management is about to catch up to you.

I have been working at Centene as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

None. No benefits to working for this company at all.

    Cons

They lie to their temp employees. I was brought on as a supposed "Temp to Hire" and only found out just recently that I had no chance of being hired. So I've been doing the job for almost 6 months, but I'm not qualified enough to do the job. Yeah, makes total "sense" to me. The FACT that I've been bad-mouthed behind my back by another employee hasn't helped. When asked why I was good enough to be brought on as a temp but not good enough to be hired, my manager informed me that if he had had the pool of people then that he has now when 30+ people just got hired, I wouldn't have gotten hired. So basically I was better than nothing. Centene is absolutely one of the worst places I have worked. What I have seen while I've been here, not everyone is treated equally. If you're a butt-kisser to management, you'll always be the "golden child". If you back stab and bad mouth others to management, same thing. So steer clear of Centene whatever you do!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees, both temp and permanent, like they're worth something and treat everyone the same. Oh, and don't like to your temps and tell them they're temp to hire when they're not!
