I worked at CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The working atmosphere is very friendly and stress-free. Financially stable company with many opportunities to grow and expand your professional network. Pay is good, benefits are great. No evening or weekend work. They encourage moving around the company if one is open for it. In-company training also offers many helpful courses. Would definitely recommend this company to a friend.

    Cons

None that I can think of, all was great.

I have been working at CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been here 31 years and have 6 weeks vacation and paid holidays. During times of medical problems they have paid me.

    Cons

When taking medical time off management places secret notes and may have more than one employee file on each person. Promotions based on good old boy system in bargaining positions.

I have been working at CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

secure job, once hired as full time it is very difficult to get fired; takes an illegal act - not the whim of a manager.

    Cons

too much micro-management, very stressful - expectations are that you are available by email 24x7 - including all weekends & holidays.

very antiquatated, regressive culture. Most staff have 25 to 35 years of seniority and they weild that over you. The mindset is very much "union" at all levels and they will not waver or vary from "treating everyone the same" - yet FAVORITISM IS RAMPANT!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

takes years and like all other companies, you must be favored or have a "guardian angel" helping you
