I have been working at Central Concrete Supply Co, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Excellent benefits and wages

    Cons

Could use better leadership at the top. I'm talking about the V.P/General Manager and V.P/Operations Manager. They need to listen better to the people in the trenches doing all the heavy lifting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people and follow through with real change.

    Pros

Management staff is highly qualified and works well with each other. Relationship between management and staff is largely very good. Senior management is highly supportive and genuinely concerned with the well being of the team.

    Cons

Largely as a result of the economy, some management positions are tasked with broad job descriptions. This provides opportunity for career enhancement, but also distracts from the ability to focus on individual areas of endeavor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with the visionary, progressive, and change-management focus.

To be dedicated, honest & hardworking(bad) or to play the political game(good) ... that is the question!

    Pros

A paycheck! When you need a paycheck and would rather play the game of office politics, than be dedicated to doing a great job at your position, then this is the place for you! Be sure to start at an entry-level position to ensure those great office politics. They have just the manager for you! Just make sure you know how to play "the game."

    Cons

Certain management teams tend to treat employees as if they were peons rather than counterparts/colleagues working together to succeed in the big picture!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat EVERY employee as if they were your counterpart or manager! A GOOD manager is a person that wants you to move up, know their job duties and more, because that means he/she is doing their job correctly. If a manager can not retain employees, hires all of their friends from previous companies and gets rid of employees for questionable reasons, then the problem lies with the manager and will never be fixed until the manager is corrected or let go. This is usually a tactic to mask their lack of performance. Since management can be intimidating at times, set up a generic email account or hotline for employees to voice or email their concerns. This will cause management to be sure that they are doing their job correctly and will also ensure that the BAD managers are let go. You are at fault as well, if you stand to the side and watch with a blind eye, regardless if it is not your place to make your voice heard.
