Mount Pleasant, MI

Former Employee – worked at Central Michigan University part-time for more than a year

ProsCentral Michigan University constantly strives for professional development in every position. Central worked well around my crazy student schedule, and my advisers were willing to help with any life situation that interfered with work. I also loved the employee scheduling system: when to work.

ConsThere were not guaranteed hours, which did not make paying bills easy. There were also too many employees hired for the fitness specialist position.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire less fitness specialists so the students can work more hours. Keep the professional development programs. They were extremely helpful.

ProsThe departments are small, and also there is a 1 to 1 relationship with the advisors (small research groups)

ConsIt's not one of the big league university...and sometimes the name counts :)

ProsThe best thing about working for Central Michigan is scheduling availability. Working with generally good people. Learning new things all the time.

ConsReceiving too much negative feedback. Supervisors are 'old school' and don't realize that their managerial styles are out dated and new approaches need to be taken.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be nice to receive more recognition for the tasks that you do well instead of always being criticized for not doing something good enough.
