    Pros

I worked a number of positions at CMU and the one thing that stood out to me was that each involved working with great people.

    Cons

I didn't experience many cons. They can be pretty stingy with the amount of hours that they allow students to work.

    Advice to Management

Most of my managers were great, but it's hard to say anything specific as they get relocated a lot.

Incompetent workers almost never get fired.

    Pros

CMU is like a second family. Everyone is very welcoming, friendly and collaborative. Salary is comparable, or even more, than other institutions in the region/state. Benefits are excellent. Management is very open to new ideas/taking 'risks' and encouraging of professional development (on that note, great, numerous opportunities for professional development are available and advertised to ALL employees).

    Cons

I really cannot pinpoint any. This isn't the case for my area (Enrollment and Student Services), but I have heard that one or two departments on-campus are not the "best" to work in regarding the overall work environment (i.e. power struggles, management and employees not seeing eye-to-eye)... I'm only going by what I have heard, though, and not seen myself.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! May need to take a closer look at some departments on-campus to ensure the work environment reflects the culture and values of the University.

    Pros

Great research opportunities. Small department provides a good open atmosphere for students and employees alike. Close work with MSU nuclear physics provides excellent research opportunities both at NSCL and on CMU's campus. Growing department

    Cons

Graduate assistants receive a stipend on the low end of the spectrum. It's enough to get by but, not a whole lot else.

    Pros

    - Working as a student employee allows for extremely centralized work as classes are never far from the workplace.

    Cons

    - Work Hours are capped during the school year to being 50 hrs per two weeks, which can be a hassle for those who can work more than that. Cap is removed during the summer for 80 hrs per two weeks.

    Advice to Management

I do not have any advice for management as they already have everything set out.
