I have been working at CenturyLink full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. If you require structure, excellent company to work for. The company is trying to expand it's offerings into the 21st century.

    Cons

You always feel like big brother is watching over your shoulder. Objectives/goals/metrics used to measure performance change every time there is a change in upper management. Lateral movement is available, vertical movement is virtually nonexistant. The benefits package gets worse with every contract negotiation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to make everyone into a robot.

I worked at CenturyLink full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay used to be good with good benefits,

    Cons

I worked for the company for 15 years, you are not recognized as a human only a metric and how much you sell.
they don't care if the sale sticks it is just a number for the share holders to increase stock price. the phone company US WEST had great leadership and customer service and actually cared about the customer. NOW Century Link could care less about the customer only upper management and share holders. When the Director after 20 plus years leaves the company you don't have a lot of faith in the direction of the business.

I worked at CenturyLink full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Offers sales incentives in the form of electronic gifts & debit card cash. Customer Care & Sales reps are left alone to be independent reps to make their own decisions.

    Cons

Qwest representives are being gradually terminated due to the difference in pay wage scale of the newly hired CenturyLink reps in the same dept. (They couldn't give the Qwest union employees less with the negotiated contact renewal, so this was their way of "leveling out the playing field" so to speak). Sales takes precedence over customer service (the more calls reps take the more likely they will make the sales goals each month). Dental plan doesn't cover anything other than basic dental work and the health plan could be better as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sales goals should be as equally important as good customer service. Reps could get excellent customer reviews and get dismissed if not making 90 percent of goal. Sales goals wouldn't be consistent. Too high one month and then lowered after a number of employees were terminated because of not making this goal. Get an idea of what and how much customer care & sales reps actually do and have to keep track of in this position prior to adding additional systems, tasks and responsibilities onto their already overloaded job duties.

I have been working at CenturyLink full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great direct manager. Fun work environment. Appears the company tries to cultivate a positive culture.

    Cons

Not enough training for all the systems. Have to learn by hard won experience resulting in bad rapport with customers. Right hand not working with left hand. Different sales teams stealing customers from each other.

    Pros

Paid fairly well, considering the path the company was on

    Cons

Declining Industry didn't help, middle management often stuck in decades-old models of managing

I have been working at CenturyLink full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Even though they cut some benefits with the last contract, still good benefits, and pay.

    Cons

They micro manage everything which ends up getting nothing done. They have respect as one of the principles of the company. Unfortunately the respect only goes up the chain, it does not flow down to the workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop micro managing, let your onsite managers make decisions. Stop being so adversarial.

I worked at CenturyLink full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

People were fantastic. High turnover, but the office atmosphere was really solid. Enjoyed collaborating with peers. Feedback and new ideas were strongly encouraged.

    Cons

Commission Structure (Payout took painfully long), processes and system limitations...Used about 6-7 systems in a given day...consolidation and organization should be made a priority in a company that prides itself on being on the "leading edge".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplify systems, improve commission structure (not for payout targets, but for payout cycle-length).

Great benefits. Company seems to be concerned for the health and family of their employees.

    Cons

The left hand doesn't always support the right hand.

I have been working at CenturyLink full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, with a super support team to assist in changes that the company continues to throw at you

    Cons

To many changes, very unrealistic sales goals, the customers know before you do about sales specials, not enough training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to clue in on what happens as their employees are what builds companies, be more proactive with your front line employees not the senior management, keep sales goals in line with the economy, be more "penny wise and less pound foolish"

I have been working at CenturyLink full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Peers made the job tolerable.
Downtown location allowed for fun/casual walks on lunch breaks.

    Cons

Managers put on more mandatory requirements (disclosures, change in SPIFF rules, doing other departments' job) without any understanding on how that takes away from the primary job function -thus making it more difficult to hit objectives.
