Pros
Great pay, great location. Work hard, play hard!
Cons
Strict hours that is it.
Advice to Senior Management
Be innovative
Pros
Salary is very respectable. Employees are younger (22 - 35 mostly). Time off is given when needed. Flexible on the time you arrive.
Cons
They cut the bottom up 20% of employees consistently. Poor feedback on performance until they fire you. They will take every hour from your life you will give them. They expect 55+ hours of work a week although they claim they only want 40 hours. Some lower management have problems confronting and fixing problems that could be addressed which will keep you from being fired.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire managers that have a backbone and can constructively tell you to step up your work before the day they call you into an office right by the door to tell you that you are fired.
Pros
Excellent work environment, atmosphere and culture.
Cons
Work/life balance and compensation for not competitive with external opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on long-term retention of talent.
Pros
Took on a lot of meaningful work.
Cons
Not very structured and could use a little more clarification on process
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
Pros
Company culture, work/life balance, small teams
Cons
Constant reorganization
Not a dynamic place to develop hot skills
Pros
The pay is very competitive and they take care of you. The facility is very good and they also have a fitness center.
Cons
The work becomes tedious at times and there is a lot of travel involved. If travel is not for you, stay away.
Advice to Senior Management
I think they are doing a good job recruiting new graduates and training them to be experts at their own field.
Pros
I started my career in the Velocity program and bounced around a bit before sticking with my current group. I think you're satisfaction depends on which team you are on. I know a lot of people that left because they didn't like their teams or life in KC. For me, I ended up on a great team and have learned a lot that is transferable in the IT industry. My manager puts all of us in positions to manage our own projects which can also be helpful within Cerner and elsewhere.
Cons
Hours can be long, it's feast or famine depending on the time of year.
Compensation can be really good starting out depending on which are you start in but after you grow your skill-set, you can take your talents elsewhere and get compensated quite a bit more. I know folks that ended up getting significant bumps in pay (~25k) after working with the company 3-5 years. Don't be fooled though, money doesn't always buy happiness.
Pros
Majority of the associates are great and the culture at the peer level and below can be fun. The pay was ok although it started to get less rewarding.
Cons
I was a woman trapped in a boys club with advancement opportunities going to the same men who regularly golfed, fished and hunted with the boss. I worked extremely hard, developed a loyal team with solid results and was routinely passed over or told to stay in my current role so I left.
Pros
knowledge sharing is good .... especially ucern site
Cons
need to address work and family balance of associates
Advice to Senior Management
be fair to employees...they are not machines
Pros
Good first job but dont stay too long
Good client exposure
Cons
As SDC you are a data monkey
No work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees as people
