    Pros

This hospital is growing fast, but has been able to maintain a good level of small family feel and authentic relationships with employees. A majority of the leadership team really cares about the employees. They provide great flexibility especially in times of family need. The community is a strong focus and they again are not afraid to put the best interest of the patient first.

    Cons

Chandler Regional is part of Dignity Health. As with any large healthcare organization, Dignity Health attempts to control certain hospital operations and policies although they may not be in the best interest of the specific hospital and Chandler community. California mandates just don't make sense in Arizona.

    Advice to Management

Fight hard to maintain your positive individual relationships with your employees. With the growth you are experiencing, it will be tough, but will be vital to your continued success.

  2. Since its takeover by Dignity Health, the quality of the community hospital has declined tremendously, unfortunately.

    Pros

I had a great unit with many friends, which is primarily what kept us all there!

    Cons

With over 7 years of time invested in the company, it was disheartening to see the downward spiral of morale after "hello human kindness" took over. Endless changes, including terrible charting systems, cut benefits, including shift differential percentages and loan reimbursement packages, and NO pay raises over the last two years. All of this while a new tower is being built and various Dignity Health urgent care are popping up all of the place. This company's priorities are so far out of balance it's no wonder the employee turnover has become what it is today.

    Advice to Management

Instead of focusing on expanding the company, increasing locations, beds, and acuity of care, try focusing on ensuring employee satisfaction, at least simultaneously. This once was such a great company to work for, before employees were just one in the crowd. We were once appreciated, compensated, and valued. Now, DH seems more focused on running the race with Banner to achieve level I Trauma, etc. QUALITY, not QUANTITY! I guess, that doesn't matter to those who aren't at the bedside delivering patient care, however?

  3. Disconnect between manger and floor staff

I worked at Chandler Regional Hospital

    Pros

Some co-workers were helpful, patient population is great, ancillary staff (lab, PT/OT, transport) always helpful.

    Cons

Upper management always cutting budgets without understanding the impact to the floor staff and patients, patient to RN ratio was 4:1 without a CNA (too much for tele), very high turnover of staff

    Pros

Overtime pay is better than any other hospital in the valley. They also offer bonus' throughout the year and for last minute shifts picked up when in need. Staff is usually friendly and treats each other with respect. Doctors area usually respectful to nursing staff. Management rounds often to see patient and employee satisfaction.

    Cons

Retirement pay is sub-par compared to any other company. They offer a pension but 401k match is only .25 to every dollar up to 6%.

    Advice to Management

A better retirement match would be preferred.

    Pros

The hospital is conveniently located if you live in the East Valley. They are expanding the services offered, so at least on paper, it appears there will be opportunity for professional growth.

    Cons

All those opportunities for growth are ONLY filled from the OUTSIDE both for nursing and allied health positions. Regardless of position, you'll find yourself in the most Hostile work enviroment of your life! Their current national ad campaign "Hello Humankindness" isn't just ironic--it's fully hypocritical!

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees routinely and really DO something with the feedback they give you. Since you make everybody take an employee satisfaction survey each year, provide a place for feedback so you can fix problems--just rating questions which you have carefully worded to not really address ANYTHING of substance is a total waste of our time!

    Pros

Great core staff, benefits are among the best, education is highly encouraged and rewarded and opportunities for growth.

    Cons

Clique-ish in nature, easy to feel ignored if you don't fit in. There is a high turn-over rate and it's easy to feel overwhelmed at times. Conflict resolution is not effective.

    Advice to Management

Utilize the chain of command for better communication and conflict resolution, encourage all staff to do this.
