I have been working at Chanel part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Easy to sell Chanel. High commissions. Strong company with a legendary and iconic place in history. This has been my part time job since last holiday season and it is wonderful. I'm actually kind of addicted.

    Cons

The only con is that it takes me forever to get ready for work because I need to look "Chanel" and that means something very specific. And flawless. If you like to do hair and makeup every day and own a lot of black, cream and blush colored clothing, you will have an easier time of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The retail store managers are doing a great job!

I have been working at Chanel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great opportunity to hone your craft and sales skills, and to begin forming long term client relationships and business partnerships.

    Cons

Long hours, extremely boring during slow periods. Some department store associates who had been with the brand a long time were very complacent and didn't want to maximize their revenue potential when I was in-store because they knew they would have to "anniversary" that day's numbers on the same day next year, without knowing whether or not they would have the same support that day next year. Most of the "retail managers", hybrids of account coordinators and account executives have their own agenda and will think nothing of making you or their fellow managers look bad. I felt like I always had to look over my shoulder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take down the ivory tower. Stop trying to be elitist. It's one thing to position yourself in a particular segment of the market, but it is entirely different to make the vast majority of department store shoppers feel alienated or not catered to at all. Commit to serving more ethnicities. There are wealthy people of all colors, shapes, and sizes.

I worked at Chanel as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Work and collaborate with a very talented and collaborative team. Being at CHANEL is incredible learning experience. You will become very knowledgeable in understanding quality and luxury craftsmanship very quickly. CHANEL teaches their employees the importance of protecting and managing a prestigious luxury brand.

    Cons

Very difficult to move up at CHANEL. Majority of the employees have been there for over 10 years at least. It is very difficult to get a job there right out of a college, they are not very keen on hiring recent college graduates. Work-life balance appears very challenging until you reach the executive level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer better support to various department directors on every level. Encourage younger employees to grow with brand

I have been working at Chanel as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

You get some gratis as a rep, Good pay, and fun.

    Cons

If you have a bad account executive your going to hate it. Not enough hours because they hire too many reps, and if it's a bad AE you don't get gratis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a new account executive in the Texas dallas/el paso region.

I worked at Chanel full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Worked in Sales Force which meant we were removed from the corporate office in NYC. Did learn a lot about managing and driving a retail business. Good opportunity to build relationships with the retailers.

    Cons

Doesn't promote from within. If you want to get promoted you'll have to quit and go somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
