Current Employee - Director of Sales and Marketing in Pound Ridge, NY

I have been working at Chapin Hill Advisors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This company is a gem. Fast paced, lots of fun, always new events and happenings being planned, fabulous client service and a variety of services offered. The founder is very talented and has a huge heart. She extends herself for others and for abandoned animals constantly. She is a frequent media guest so she is knowledgeable, well-spoken and in-demand as a moderator and panelist at a variety of conferences. The work is intense but always interesting.

    Cons

The fast-paced nature of the founder along with the heavy workload can make working in this environment challenging. The firm has reached out to interns to provide help with projects with mixed results. If the entire team is not on-board, it creates extra work and frustrations for the rest of the team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time in making decisions about hiring. Extend the probationary period and cut out the bad apples sooner and it will lead to more productivity and a happier work environment for all.

Terrific Way to Gain a tremendous amount of experience in so many areas of running a business and finance

I have been working at Chapin Hill Advisors part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The pace is very fast and the owner is tremendously talented which means there is always a lot going on. She is a frequent media guest so you see how public relations and media work to benefit the firm. There are many events hosted by the firm which benefit not for profits and serve to promote the firm's image. Clients are varied and intelligent but often demanding as well. This is a great way to gain experience in so many facets. The owner is an avid proponent of animal rescue which I admire.

    Cons

There is little training as it is a small firm. You are expected to be very organized and a self starter as you are not micro-managed. This is not the place for someone looking to hide or a slacker. If you are not up to the tasks, you will not fit in and possibly affect your self esteem. If you are not an animal lover, this is also not the place for you to be. It is made very clear in the interview process that the pace is demanding and dogs are in the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Creating training manuals for new tasks needed to be executed and operational tasks would be helpful.

I have been working at Chapin Hill Advisors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The founder is very involved in her community so part of the experience is helping to execute events and fundraisers to help various charities, especially animal rescue as the owner is very involved. The founder is very fast and there is always a lot going on. So not only do you gain exposure to the technical aspects of the job but you see how a business is run from PR to marketing and payroll and management.

    Cons

The founder/owner is very fast paced with a super high energy level. She is difficult to keep up with and not very patient. She expects the employees to be super organized, follow directions and not be texting or emailing friends during working hours. This is all laid out in the interview process though so there should not be any surprises. If you are a slacker, not organized or don't really want to work hard, this place is not for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time interviewing potential employees and put trial work periods in to place to weed out the poor employees who will not fit in and wreck havoc within the workplace.

    Pros

Working here will give you the skills to juggle many different and challenging tasks at once. You will learn how to challenge difficult situations while being exposed to interesting clients.

    Cons

Management is extremely unprofessional and at times very scary and unstable. The president invites you into her home to take care of an excessive amount of pets (15+) it is very unsanitary and smells like a cess pool. Pets are aggressive, large, and scary.

You DO NOT get paid on time, or at all. They will tell you that they don't have the money right now. You will likely receive less than half of your negotiated wage and be told checks are in the mail just to find out that they never actually come, or often the checks bounce. You can try and try to work with them, but they will continually let you down. If you get on management's bad side they will slander you.

This is the WORSE place that I have ever worked and I urge anyone considering a position here to reconsider. It was the biggest let down I've ever encountered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees fairly, improve working environment (reduce amount of pets and smell of urine in office), pay employees on time and at the appropriate negotiated wage.

    Pros

There are no pros to this job.

    Cons

As one of the presidents latest employees, as well as one of her only 2 employees at the time (who both quit due to not being paid) I can assure you that she is a liar, cheater, and complete psychopath. The last three 5 star reviews were written by her as she has not had an employee since and I left this year. She cheats her employees and customers out of there money. Her house/office is filthy and could be considered a biohazard. She is unprofessional and immature. Not to mention completely broke- her checks bounce every month! I would not recommend this company to any person who wants to be treated like a human being.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at where you are now as an individual and business. Now every time you start to blame someone else for your mistakes stop and realize that you are the sole reason you are where you're at today.

It's a great learning experience, good, bad and otherwise.

    Cons

Have to work with the crazy owners pets (MULTIPLE) and they smell. She's one client loss away from total bankruptcy and is a metal case. I CAN GUARANTEE the only glowing review this nutcase received is from herself.

    Pros

Besides its convenient location in midtown, there is nothing good about this company. Oh, I also guess that if you're an animal person, you'll enjoy the dogs roaming around the office.

    Cons

Management likes to abuse of employees, especially interns. They pay them twenty dollars a day stipen to do the full time job of an office manager, personal assistant, and puppet. Then, management (by which I mean the sole proprietor of the company) uses this twisted manipulation trip whereby she's really nice sometimes and then becomes a completely different person if you slip up once (and her standards of slip up are very vague). For the life of you, don't take this job if you value your humanity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership, if you can be called that, please quit.

    Pros

The knowledge you can attain from working with LPL Financial Services that offers the Securities to Chapin Hill Advisors, Inc. Small firm allowed for working closely with Management being involved with special projects and every chapter of the business.

    Cons

Extreme amounts of work and pressure given to the employee with no formal training. Long work days 12 hours plus and leaving the office for lunch is frowned upon by management and will reflect upon your bonus. The company is juggling to many facets to make money to stay in business and does not concentrate on one branch to perfect. Very unorganized atmosphere and company to work for, needs to set priorities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Detailed job descriptions, formal training, and restructuring of the small employee group is needed to improve efficiency within the company.

    Pros

Small firm allowed for ease of information sharing and the ability to work closely with senior members of the firm. Hands-on work experience at the internship level broadened the knowledge base acquired through daily responsibilities.

    Cons

Time pressured requirements led to disorganization and display of emotions among employees at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructuring of the responsibilities among the small employee base is necessary to improve internal efficiency.

    Pros

A good way to break into the financial advisory industry. You get to work on all aspects of the business right away. Office conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan.

    Cons

Poor leadership. A haphazard approach to all aspects of the business. Grossly exaggerated expectations for a small number of employees to do the same quantity of work as ten times the number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep realistic goals and expectations for employees, keeping in mind their individual strengths and weaknesses. Read up on personnel management and training.
