I worked at Chapin Hill Advisors

    Pros

Small firm allowed for ease of information sharing and the ability to work closely with senior members of the firm. Hands-on work experience at the internship level broadened the knowledge base acquired through daily responsibilities.

    Cons

Time pressured requirements led to disorganization and display of emotions among employees at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructuring of the responsibilities among the small employee base is necessary to improve internal efficiency.

This company is run by a nail biting sociopath that expects you to do everything for her 12 plus hours a day..

    Pros

It's a great learning experience, good, bad and otherwise.

    Cons

Have to work with the crazy owners pets (MULTIPLE) and they smell. She's one client loss away from total bankruptcy and is a metal case. I CAN GUARANTEE the only glowing review this nutcase received is from herself.

HORRIBLE! Don't do it unless you enjoy being treated like garbage.

    Pros

Besides its convenient location in midtown, there is nothing good about this company. Oh, I also guess that if you're an animal person, you'll enjoy the dogs roaming around the office.

    Cons

Management likes to abuse of employees, especially interns. They pay them twenty dollars a day stipen to do the full time job of an office manager, personal assistant, and puppet. Then, management (by which I mean the sole proprietor of the company) uses this twisted manipulation trip whereby she's really nice sometimes and then becomes a completely different person if you slip up once (and her standards of slip up are very vague). For the life of you, don't take this job if you value your humanity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership, if you can be called that, please quit.

    Pros

The knowledge you can attain from working with LPL Financial Services that offers the Securities to Chapin Hill Advisors, Inc. Small firm allowed for working closely with Management being involved with special projects and every chapter of the business.

    Cons

Extreme amounts of work and pressure given to the employee with no formal training. Long work days 12 hours plus and leaving the office for lunch is frowned upon by management and will reflect upon your bonus. The company is juggling to many facets to make money to stay in business and does not concentrate on one branch to perfect. Very unorganized atmosphere and company to work for, needs to set priorities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Detailed job descriptions, formal training, and restructuring of the small employee group is needed to improve efficiency within the company.

    Pros

A good way to break into the financial advisory industry. You get to work on all aspects of the business right away. Office conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan.

    Cons

Poor leadership. A haphazard approach to all aspects of the business. Grossly exaggerated expectations for a small number of employees to do the same quantity of work as ten times the number.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep realistic goals and expectations for employees, keeping in mind their individual strengths and weaknesses. Read up on personnel management and training.

I have been working at Chapin Hill Advisors

    Pros

Interns are part of the team and therefore are given a lot of "real" work to perform. It is a great learning experience and I got to see how a business runs as well as exposure to marketing, public relations, research, trading and technical analysis.

    Cons

The work is fast paced and interns are given a lot of responsiblity. not everyone can work in this type of environment. It is not for you if you are not organized and a self starter
