Not a place you will likely stay for too long

    Corporate Response Team (Former Employee)

Pros-Hire students right out of college and give them the opportunity to see many sites and get a feel for what area they may prefer to settle in.
-Many of the coworkers were nice and willing to help one another (depending on the site you were at)
-Flexible with giving time off when needed
    -Good place to build experience

    ConsWhere should I start...
-Lack of communication between upper management with employees
    -Not much opportunity for advancement
    -High turnover rates
    -Very physically demanding
-Some supervisors seem to just overlook when employees do things wrong instead correcting them and showing the proper way to do things.
-Some supervisors seem to care more about themselves and their lives then their own employees.
-Employees are not really encouraged to go above and beyond what is required because they never seem to be rewarded with even a simple thank you.
-Management never seems to take the ideas of the employees even though the employees are the ones on the floor actually performing the given tasks

Advice to Senior ManagementBreak out of the office and actually meet some of the employees. See what they are doing for the company and consider ideas they may have.

Employees are really just faceless bodies here.

    Report Coordinator (Former Employee)

ProsCulture (at US and UK sites), benefits, core values.

ConsNo room for advancement unless you are friends with management, team morale extremely low at most sites, lots of political infighting, very poor salaries at Canadian site.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop using fear tactics to keep people working at 110% with low morale and burnout. It is well documented that encouragement and advancement opportunities make people want to give their best at work.
Stop rewarding years of loyal, exceptional service to the company with employee layoffs. The company is known for them and has a relatively negative public image.

A frustrating place to work (BPS division)

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEx-employee of the BPS division. Comments pertain to this division of CRL only.

    1. Many of my co-workers were nice
    2. Adequate to good benefits

    Cons1. Low base salary
    2. Limited advancement opportunities
    3. High employee turnover rate, and senior/corporate management indifference to this problem.
    4. A corporate culture which tends to ignore large, systematic problems, while getting bogged down with minutiae
    5. A corporate culture which does not recognize the need for process improvements or R&D, instead focusing almost solely on short-term revenue goals
    6. General miserliness and penny-pinching, to the point of perhaps being pennywise but pound foolish, related to #5.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo corporate management: GMP QC/release testing facilities are not animal breeding facilities, and should be managed differently.

To local, senior management: Find some way, any way, to entice employees to stick around.

    Focused Professional Life Science Company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFully supported staff with space, administrative supplies, made expectations clear, high salary, extras such as coffee and breakfast/ family events. Secure work place. Really good benefits- medical/dental, 401k.

ConsRapid growth and then layoff for some, not family flexible, parking lots issue. Cafeteria food cost too much, and difficult to go off site due to security.Too much overtime. Too many people getting hurt at work.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay the best at what you are good at. Do not become Bausch and Lomb.

Poor vision for employees and low morale

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Malvern, PA

ProsGood relations with my direct line manager

ConsNo one seemed to know what the company goals were. Meetings were fraught with bad-mouthing corporate and shooting sarcasm at upper management. People actually spent time on company hours looking for other job options and were not shy about it. Whenever someone got a new job, people lined up their cubby to ask for inside recommendations on the new job.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop bashing corporate for your mediocrity. The people that work for you will respect you more if you owned your mistakes more pften

Beware, not a good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLots of work to keep you busy. You'll never get fired.

ConsHR and Sr. Management treat employees like crud. You better know how to kiss up and stay on EVERYONE's good side at ALL times or else you are in for a bad time. CRL doesn't seem to believe in firing people which means that no matter how imcompetent your coworkers are, you are stuck with them.
