Poorly compensated for high levels of stress, disorganization and mismanagement

I worked at Charter Oak State College full-time for more than 3 years

ProsState job, well-intentioned staff and good students.

ConsHigh stress created by poor management. There is very low employee morale which results in low productivity and too much time spent on internal conflicts and unclear expectations. Highly talented staff are poorly managed. Very little opportunity for growth within the organization. Problems are not addressed proactively but allowed to grow. This is an extremely unpleasant work place with very little emphasis on quality or creativity. Staff are increasingly being expected to do more with less and support staff are treated with extreme lack of respect and consideration. Many complaints against supervisors have been filed in recent years.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut more money in people and creating an effective and inspired workforce and less money on toys.

Leadership is a wreck; low morale among employees; no opportunities for advancement

I have been working at Charter Oak State College

ProsGenerally co-workers are very nice and well intentioned, supervisors are flexible during family emergencies and benefits are very good. Best union representation in the state. They do not micromanage but give you freedom to manage your own workload.

Consupper management is not always upfront about work demands; management is not responsive to staff requests for improving the organization; history of issues that have been swept under the rug (CYA is the mentality in HR), management has limited vision for the college; management tends to support an "old boy network" mentality and does not recognize it's best and brightest staff; staff not paid based on excellence or experience- salaries seem based on who you know

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize the employees that are excellent and stop supporting and advancing those who are mediocre
