I have been working at Chattem full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Outstanding one on one training, extremely positive atmosphere, outstanding leadership that wants to see you succeed. I have been with the company for more than 10 years and it is truly a family atmosphere that encourages thinking out of the box. The lines of communication are always open with top level employees and my direct management is always positive and supportive.

    Cons

There really is no downside at Chattem.

I worked at Chattem full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great co workers, lots of paid Holidays,Great insurance

    Cons

Supervision is one sided,This is a good ol boy system that supervision and upper management all stick together. The employees do not have a say so in anything. The pay is well below average. You will not have a home life since the wages are so poor you will be there 10 to 16 hours a day. This place is like a step back in time,Its amazing that they get away with the things that they do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees,Be employee friendly,Offer some type of advancement.

I have been working at Chattem

    Pros

The work environment is pretty good for this type of work, coworkers are generally nice. Depending on your position you can have a good balance of work and home life, but overtime is available if you need it. Some nice fringe benefits as well.

    Cons

Little room for promotion. Management very much has a "we're up there and they're down there" attitude w/r/t hourly employees, little decision involvement. Pay scales are well below average for this field of work, especially considering their exceptional growth + profits. Management seems pretty closed off to suggestion or change and doesn't accommodate your advancement very well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training program, more fair compensation based on position + responsibilities, better pay structure, more open door policies (employee involvement in meetings, decision making, etc.).

    I worked at Chattem

    Pros

It is possible to learn alot while at Chattem and gain significant experience in a career field.
You learn the use of lean management and just in time inventory systems.

    Cons

Chattem is basically an overgrown family company that still refuses to invest in equipment or employees. There is no development or training of employees to speak of and it is nearly impossible to be promoted to anything meaningful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer opportunities to some of the very capable employees that you already have on-staff.
Create a legitimate training program to actually develop employees.

I worked at Chattem full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There is some flexibility in work schedule if you have a dental or doctor appointment. Get 15 days of vacation which goes to 21 days after working there for 8 years.
Company is growing in terms of revenues, so the company isn't going bankrupt anytime soon.
Many people show up to work in jeans.
More factory workers and sales professionals are being hired.
    Friendly people.

    Cons

Even with record-breaking revenues, employees were literally told to be happy with a 1-2% raise since the economy was down. This was the norm even in the good economy of early 2000s.
Like many other places, work loads increased instead of hiring.
Pay rates skew towards the low end.
Office politics and people who have been there for more than 15 yeas are set in there ways.

    Pros

Friendly employees. Company is growing even in this tough economy.

    Cons

Managers are set in their ways and refuse to embrace change. There is no specific training program. If you have an issue with your direct manager, forget about coming to upper management or HR since they're all friends & neighbors for the last 20 years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start a 360 degree coaching or have your managers re-trained
