Good people; tense, depressing environment

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Chemtura

ProsMany good, smart people work at Chemtura. Unfortunately, the nature of the company's products, the bad economy and the inept leadership at all levels have led the company to Chapter 11. The company has gone through layoff after layoff to no avail, resulting in the departure of many good, hard-working people.

ConsLack of success, poor morale.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat people with more dignity and respect.

I am not sure if it is lack of vision or too much aquisition greatness just seems to escape him.

ConsChange is constant. You are either in or out. In the last few years most people have moved on.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide a stable work environment for the employees. Constant change is high stress.

Wait till it's sold before you come to work here...

Business Analyst (Current Employee)
West Hartford, CT

I have been working at Chemtura

ProsThe only good thing about working for Chemtura is the hope it will be sold soon and life can be restored to the better days which were "pre-Crompton". If I didn't like the business I work for and the people in it, I would be gone already.

ConsThe corporate office is milking the other profitable parts of the business dry and forcing them to make poor decisions to satisfy current quarter deficits. These decisions will impact the future of these businesses, but they don't care much about that.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you are going to sell, get busy doing it fast. Take your money and run.

Outstanding employee recognition and promotional incentives

Technician (Former Employee)

I worked at Chemtura full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe cultural environment at Chemtura in general is friendly and most of people are nice. You may enjoy your time at work and will have good relation with your colleagues.

ConsThe management system at Chemtura is not as professional as you expect for a global company. The culture of pointing out lower level employees in case of any problem or unsuccessful business is most likely in the company. Management rarely tries incentive methods to improve work results but punishment is always an option.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmplyees are a companies assets. It worthed to keep valued employees and even if there is any problem try to resolve it in a resonable way.

This place is run by incompetent "leaders" who are just milking their salaries.

Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Chemtura

ProsGood pay to get you in the door because they can't get anyone to work there. If you like to lay low and just punch the clock, this is the place for you.

ConsNo growth or development. Very closed off, limited senior management group. Company can go bust at anytime because it is all a game to the guys at the top.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at yourselves and your buddy system. You have no competent middle management or succession planning for your useless executive staff.
