    Constant Change

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsVery good benefits, especially the 401k program. Administrative salaries are competitive.

ConsThis place is conatantly laying off and asking those left beind to assimilate more duties into an already full work week while not incurring overtime. Management changes its model far too much. There is always a "re-organization" going on. Due to all the layoffs, there is no opportunity for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementRun this company correctly.

Company with change in the air

    Senior Accountant (Former Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsExtremely proactive senior management group bent on turning a floundering company into a solid chemical company. In doing so setting up a core business of profitable portfolio groups.

ConsMiddle management very rigid for this most part creating an uncomfortable ease among employees. The fear of being laid off by a restructure to create better financials.

Medium size company with a small company feel

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsGreat legacy in the past, long tradition of technology development. The smaller size give you a intimate feeling of the people you work with. Good work/life balance.

ConsLower pay comparing to bigger chemical companies, decisions are constantly being changed. Company came back from bankcruptcy but still struggling to grow

    Former Finance Leader

    Finance Director (Former Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsThey pay pretty well. Challenging work environment.

ConsExpected to be "on the clock" 24/7. Incompetent Sr Management. No loyalty to "the troops". Chrurn and Burn mentality.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the firm (if you get the opportunity). Ciba did it to the betterment of employees (BASF is a machine).

Great people, not so great management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsThe benefits are pretty good at Chemtura. The people I worked with were also great. Everyone had lively personalities and just tried to get all their work done everyday. They will happily accept new people and try to make you feel like part of the team. There are also some really smart people there too with a lot of ambition.

ConsThere very much exists an us v. them culture. No one approved of management as every person had an issue with the level above them. Employee reviews didn't make sense as regardless how well you did, you were never given the score (and thus raise) you deserved. There are a so many people at that company that go under-utilized and under-appreciated.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour older employees have gone through a lot with the divestitures, layoffs, and acquisitions. Treat them with respect for staying around. Show some loyalty and try to make it so they can actually enjoy coming into work. You can not hire new, young talent, and expect them to develop and stay to replace the old herd if the company itself does not become a happier place to work at.

New lease on life in the AgroSolutions business

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Middlebury, CT

ProsNew senior management in 2011 has made us profitable again. It feels like we are winners after a multi-year losing streak. Opportunities for advancement are reappearing. Non-contributors are being removed or leaving on their own. Management decisions are being made and actions taken after years of paralysis.

ConsTop business managers are tough, sometimes too tough. We don't always understand what their motives are, but we are coming to trust their judgment based on the results. We are short staffed and corporate support roles in finance, legal and HR let us down too often.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo not lose your courage. It will take a few more years to solve the problems created by the years of mismanagement leading to our 2009 bankruptcy. Use a few more carrots to go along with the sticks.
