    I worked at Chemtura

    Pros

The only pro for this company is that it isn't long for this world.

    Cons

Senior "leadership". The CEO brought all of his friends from a previous company along and moved the company headquarters to Philadelphia because he didn't want to move. Interseting in a company that isn't making any money. The only trnasplant was a lower level HR manager that whispered the things the CEO wanted to hear so he could get promoted. None of the "leadership" is qualified to run a company, their only qualification is they sold a company together before and that's why they are here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. The sooner the company gets broken up and sold in pieces, the better for the people in those pieces.

Quarterly focus at the expense of long-term vision has ruined a good company.

I have been working at Chemtura

    Pros

Dedicated and engaged people doing the day to day business of this company are great. In particular, the Great Lakes side has been lucky to have a lot of excellent people who cared about the success of the business.

    Cons

Management has reorganized this company out of existence. The focus on quarterly results has driven numerous reorganizations that have stripped the company of the people who can actually deliver results.

    Understaffed and Overworked

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Greater ability for additional responsibilities due to shrinking workforce.

    Cons

Lack of communication within businesses and between businesses and departments. Impossible deadlines. No compensation for overtime work. Difficult for internal and external customers to do business with Chemtura. Entire dedicated IT workforce replaced by unskilled and untrained IT non-professionals who cannot carry out the most basic of IT functions thus causing constant disruption in work flow and productivity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with staff. Be honest and open about upcoming changes. Provide compensation for staff who have taken on greater responsibilities due to loss of positions. Replace IT staff with properly trained IT professionals.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits, especially the 401k program. Administrative salaries are competitive.

    Cons

This place is conatantly laying off and asking those left beind to assimilate more duties into an already full work week while not incurring overtime. Management changes its model far too much. There is always a "re-organization" going on. Due to all the layoffs, there is no opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Run this company correctly.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice temp workers, very quiet, most won't get hired, won't pass a background check.

    Cons

No money to spend on what it would, take to make the air better, will spend it on small improvements.
The clicques have it made, keep your mouth shut, they don't want to improve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put some money in the place, visit it unannounced if you care. Quit putting money in the local OSHA's palm, they have to be on the take, it will bite you one day. Hey OSHA, pay a unannouced visit once in a while, if you care.

I have been working at Chemtura

    Pros

Chemtura is very good in flexible working hours and balancing work/personal life situations. Management is not rigid, friendly good people, lots of promise exist within the business and if you are lucky you may have a very nice manager.

    Cons

Filed CH-11, poor management and divestitures, lot of ups and downs since merger of GLCC and Crompton. Extremely poor salary, no bonus, no good practice to recognize people's performance, no reward for projects, no career progression possibility exists....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review available compensations in the market for similar jobs, need to learn to think internationally and not only Middlebury, CT based. Top management never seem to care about lower level employees.

I have been working at Chemtura

    Pros

The only good thing about working for Chemtura is the hope it will be sold soon and life can be restored to the better days which were "pre-Crompton". If I didn't like the business I work for and the people in it, I would be gone already.

    Cons

The corporate office is milking the other profitable parts of the business dry and forcing them to make poor decisions to satisfy current quarter deficits. These decisions will impact the future of these businesses, but they don't care much about that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are going to sell, get busy doing it fast. Take your money and run.

Could be better with a better management

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive salary compared to other companies around. Friendly atmosphere to work within the same level in the organization.

    Cons

Job insecurity due to too many restructuring instances. inefficiency at the managerial and business levels to make projects successful. No opportunity for growth management for the workers. Favoritism shown by some management leaders to some of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaders should find ways to rebuild the company with better project management and proper utilization of human resources rather than resorting to layoff at every instance.
