I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very safe working environment. Safety oriented company. There is a chance for growth out of entry level, but typically the growth occurs because of the number of reorganizations that occur.

    Cons

As mentioned in the title. Very top heavy company with middle/upper management spread out amongst many different sites which means management cannot get to know their reports. It just creates the environment where every employee feels like another number.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like people. Not like a flock of sheep and maybe there would be some honest growth and retention of employees.

    Pros

I love work here at Chemtura. I have learned so much and have been able to move rather fast to a Chemical Operator. I get along great with my boss. The pay is great and so are the beneifets.

    Cons

There really haven't been any cons except for the fact the plant is getting ready to close for good. I wish that wasn'r happening.

    Advice to Management

No secrets. Keeping things from employees are not good. Being upfront and honest is the best way to be with any thing in life.

    Pros

401K program and the Health Insurance was good. Everybody received free product at that time. There were nice people in Chemical Production except for the Supervisors. There were nice people in the Maintenance Department too.

    Cons

I was so exposed to chemicals that when I now smell cleaning products my tongue burns. Peeling ceilings. OSHA must be paid off cause they don't ever visit, why not? It's a chemical company! They asked me to stay and train people after they laid me off.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Majority of the people are still nice, work well in teams and are customer focused

    Cons

You have to be a part of a clique to advance. Doing the right thing, working hard and contributing positively while appreciated will not get you the career growth needed unless part of a clique Almost always prefer outside hires to promoting from within the ranks. No longer value experience and knowledge. Middle management has become a revolving door

    Advice to Management

Hear out people who have been in the business for a while. Not everything they say is wrong. Become customer focused and earnings will improve automatically. Stop pandering just to Wall Street.

    Pros

Good benefits. great people. Schedule flexibility.

    Cons

    Constant restructuring and frequent layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Stick with a plan long enough to give it a chance to be successful. Don't sell your ability to be profitable in the long term to look good on the next quarterly statement.
