I have been working at Chemtura full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits and flexibility of hours are great.

    Cons

-Management lacks communication with those under them causing strife and limiting growth in the company.
-There is a lack of training to new comers if you are salary- hourly gets all the training the need/desire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an open door and let everyone know what is going on.

Great people but 'flavor of the day' management that lacks focus and creates constant churn.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, competitive pay, leadership position in some product areas. Life can be very good if you are in the Philadelphia headquarters.

    Cons

Upper management that is addicted to consultants and hasn't had an original idea in 5 years. The combining of the Petroleum Additives and Urethanes businesses makes absolutely no sense. The Chemtura world is now divided between those that are in the Philadelphia office and the rest of company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand the businesses you are running and stand for something. Take note that every business divested by Chemtura has gone on to prosper once out from the chaos of Chemtura.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with. For me it's working with family than just work colleagues.

    Cons

A lot of changes have occurred over the last year and I have seen a lot of good friends of mine leave the company. It goes with the territory.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Extremely proactive senior management group bent on turning a floundering company into a solid chemical company. In doing so setting up a core business of profitable portfolio groups.

    Cons

Middle management very rigid for this most part creating an uncomfortable ease among employees. The fear of being laid off by a restructure to create better financials.

    Pros

Great legacy in the past, long tradition of technology development. The smaller size give you a intimate feeling of the people you work with. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Lower pay comparing to bigger chemical companies, decisions are constantly being changed. Company came back from bankcruptcy but still struggling to grow

    Pros

    Interesting, ever changing work!!!
Great people to work with making it a pleasure to come to work.
    Good benefits

    Cons

Not impressed with the way upper management runs the company. Way to top heavy. Location leaves something to be desired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut out upper middle management, reduce upper management bonuses and reinvest back into the company and your employees!!

    Pros

They pay pretty well. Challenging work environment.

    Cons

Expected to be "on the clock" 24/7. Incompetent Sr Management. No loyalty to "the troops". Chrurn and Burn mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the firm (if you get the opportunity). Ciba did it to the betterment of employees (BASF is a machine).

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

BioLab was a great "family" atmosphere company, Had great talent and folks respected one another. Leader in the market with a loyal following.

    Cons

Corporate influence who really didn't understand the business. Subbusiness had to run everything through corporate, causing delay to action, improper decisions and loss of business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the old executive team who was successful in contributing growth, loyalty in it customers and staff and gave the corporate strong bottom line performance even in bad times. Too much industrial influence in an consumer focused environment. Performance then.... and now...

    I worked at Chemtura full-time

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good at Chemtura. The people I worked with were also great. Everyone had lively personalities and just tried to get all their work done everyday. They will happily accept new people and try to make you feel like part of the team. There are also some really smart people there too with a lot of ambition.

    Cons

There very much exists an us v. them culture. No one approved of management as every person had an issue with the level above them. Employee reviews didn't make sense as regardless how well you did, you were never given the score (and thus raise) you deserved. There are a so many people at that company that go under-utilized and under-appreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your older employees have gone through a lot with the divestitures, layoffs, and acquisitions. Treat them with respect for staying around. Show some loyalty and try to make it so they can actually enjoy coming into work. You can not hire new, young talent, and expect them to develop and stay to replace the old herd if the company itself does not become a happier place to work at.
