  1. Overall a good experience. As a young engineer it was a great place to get a ton of experience.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great working environment at the West Lafayette site. Always seemed to have uncertainty in the company with where it was heading. Good working experience

    Cons

Never seemed to have well defined goals or objectives that were also attainable for the future of the company.

    Advice to Management

Be more definitive in future goals and relate better with all employees. Keep in mind even the lowest on the corporate ladder.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and competitive salary compared to other companies around. Friendly atmosphere to work within the same level in the organization.

    Cons

Job insecurity due to too many restructuring instances. inefficiency at the managerial and business levels to make projects successful. No opportunity for growth management for the workers. Favoritism shown by some management leaders to some of the employees.

    Advice to Management

Leaders should find ways to rebuild the company with better project management and proper utilization of human resources rather than resorting to layoff at every instance.

    Poorly run company

    Pros

The only pro for this company is that it isn't long for this world.

    Cons

Senior "leadership". The CEO brought all of his friends from a previous company along and moved the company headquarters to Philadelphia because he didn't want to move. Interseting in a company that isn't making any money. The only trnasplant was a lower level HR manager that whispered the things the CEO wanted to hear so he could get promoted. None of the "leadership" is qualified to run a company, their only qualification is they sold a company together before and that's why they are here.

    Advice to Management

None. The sooner the company gets broken up and sold in pieces, the better for the people in those pieces.

    Pros

Direct managers give freedom to do work as I have seen fit. Compensation and benefits have been good. West Lafayette has been a great place to raise a family.

    Cons

A recent upper level management change has left Great Lakes Solutions in a precarious position. No longer are employees actual people but simply a number on a spreadsheet.

    I worked at Chemtura full-time

    Pros

Was a great team culture and very happy to work with my teammates even despite going through bankruptcy in 2009-10. Benefits and are hard to beat and also competitive salaries. The West Lafayette site is a great college town, but it is being de-emphasized in 2014 versus headquarters and plant sites. Generally good market positions in its 2 remaining major businesses, but innovation/vitality is lower than it should be.

    Cons

Sticking with top-down goals despite market realities caused serious issues with business performance. Significant restructuring in 4Q every year 2012-2014 as major pieces of the company sold off. Now acknowledge that the company will not exist in its current state - will be sold off or acquired; however acquired employees have generally been happier with their new firm. Constant downsizing continually means doing the same or more with less, and few career development opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Make the major portfolio changes as quickly as possible - communicate them and get them over. Prolonging the pain and cutting too many people in the short term will damage the long term potential of the businesses and thus their value to an acquirer. Difficult to do in a shrinking company, but having personal development opportunities and a clear vision would retain and attract the right people.

    Advice to Management

Bob Wood stayed to long, go back to the old structure before 2003.

    Pros

Good as it can be. We got excellent life insurance benefits. Very small work force on its way out the door.

    Cons

Bad as it can be. Office management lacks credibility. Safety is key, but the management finds no interest in it.

    Advice to Management

Be very careful. The shareholders could desert you.
