    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive salary and relative independance working with the end customers is the highlight of the job.

    Cons

Independance stems from a lack of structure and direction. No clearly defined culture.

    Advice to Management

Define a culture, create clear career advancement opportunities, decisive action.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary & benefits are competitive. This is a relatively flat organization, without a lot of layers. It is also very lean (not sure if that is a con, for the work loads it creates).

    Cons

Having to live with the uncertainty of downsizing every September (2012, 2013, 2014). Many have old school managerial styles, unwilling to listen to and execute new ideas. Pretty low morale.

    Advice to Management

Listen. Encourage feedback (not at the top, require lower level managers to solicit feedback. You are getting it too lean to be able to compete and survive for very long.

    Understaffed and Overworked

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Greater ability for additional responsibilities due to shrinking workforce.

    Cons

Lack of communication within businesses and between businesses and departments. Impossible deadlines. No compensation for overtime work. Difficult for internal and external customers to do business with Chemtura. Entire dedicated IT workforce replaced by unskilled and untrained IT non-professionals who cannot carry out the most basic of IT functions thus causing constant disruption in work flow and productivity.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with staff. Be honest and open about upcoming changes. Provide compensation for staff who have taken on greater responsibilities due to loss of positions. Replace IT staff with properly trained IT professionals.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits, especially the 401k program. Administrative salaries are competitive.

    Cons

This place is conatantly laying off and asking those left beind to assimilate more duties into an already full work week while not incurring overtime. Management changes its model far too much. There is always a "re-organization" going on. Due to all the layoffs, there is no opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Run this company correctly.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits and flexibility of hours are great.

    Cons

-Management lacks communication with those under them causing strife and limiting growth in the company. -There is a lack of training to new comers if you are salary- hourly gets all the training the need/desire.

    Advice to Management

Keep an open door and let everyone know what is going on.

Great people but 'flavor of the day' management that lacks focus and creates constant churn.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, competitive pay, leadership position in some product areas. Life can be very good if you are in the Philadelphia headquarters.

    Cons

Upper management that is addicted to consultants and hasn't had an original idea in 5 years. The combining of the Petroleum Additives and Urethanes businesses makes absolutely no sense. The Chemtura world is now divided between those that are in the Philadelphia office and the rest of company.

    Advice to Management

Understand the businesses you are running and stand for something. Take note that every business divested by Chemtura has gone on to prosper once out from the chaos of Chemtura.

    Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with. For me it's working with family than just work colleagues.

    Cons

A lot of changes have occurred over the last year and I have seen a lot of good friends of mine leave the company. It goes with the territory.
