    Pros

Competitive salary and relative independance working with the end customers is the highlight of the job.

    Cons

Independance stems from a lack of structure and direction. No clearly defined culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Define a culture, create clear career advancement opportunities, decisive action.

I have been working at Chemtura full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary & benefits are competitive. This is a relatively flat organization, without a lot of layers. It is also very lean (not sure if that is a con, for the work loads it creates).

    Cons

Having to live with the uncertainty of downsizing every September (2012, 2013, 2014). Many have old school managerial styles, unwilling to listen to and execute new ideas. Pretty low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen. Encourage feedback (not at the top, require lower level managers to solicit feedback. You are getting it too lean to be able to compete and survive for very long.

    Pros

They pay pretty well. Challenging work environment.

    Cons

Expected to be "on the clock" 24/7. Incompetent Sr Management. No loyalty to "the troops". Chrurn and Burn mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the firm (if you get the opportunity). Ciba did it to the betterment of employees (BASF is a machine).

I worked at Chemtura full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

BioLab was a great "family" atmosphere company, Had great talent and folks respected one another. Leader in the market with a loyal following.

    Cons

Corporate influence who really didn't understand the business. Subbusiness had to run everything through corporate, causing delay to action, improper decisions and loss of business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back the old executive team who was successful in contributing growth, loyalty in it customers and staff and gave the corporate strong bottom line performance even in bad times. Too much industrial influence in an consumer focused environment. Performance then.... and now...

    I worked at Chemtura full-time

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good at Chemtura. The people I worked with were also great. Everyone had lively personalities and just tried to get all their work done everyday. They will happily accept new people and try to make you feel like part of the team. There are also some really smart people there too with a lot of ambition.

    Cons

There very much exists an us v. them culture. No one approved of management as every person had an issue with the level above them. Employee reviews didn't make sense as regardless how well you did, you were never given the score (and thus raise) you deserved. There are a so many people at that company that go under-utilized and under-appreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your older employees have gone through a lot with the divestitures, layoffs, and acquisitions. Treat them with respect for staying around. Show some loyalty and try to make it so they can actually enjoy coming into work. You can not hire new, young talent, and expect them to develop and stay to replace the old herd if the company itself does not become a happier place to work at.

    Pros

The cultural environment at Chemtura in general is friendly and most of people are nice. You may enjoy your time at work and will have good relation with your colleagues.

    Cons

The management system at Chemtura is not as professional as you expect for a global company. The culture of pointing out lower level employees in case of any problem or unsuccessful business is most likely in the company. Management rarely tries incentive methods to improve work results but punishment is always an option.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Emplyees are a companies assets. It worthed to keep valued employees and even if there is any problem try to resolve it in a resonable way.

    Pros

Good pay to get you in the door because they can't get anyone to work there. If you like to lay low and just punch the clock, this is the place for you.

    Cons

No growth or development. Very closed off, limited senior management group. Company can go bust at anytime because it is all a game to the guys at the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at yourselves and your buddy system. You have no competent middle management or succession planning for your useless executive staff.

    I worked at Chemtura

    Pros

They pay well to get resources in the door if all you want is a good paycheck. Some functional areas are flexible with attendance.

    Cons

Absolutely no growth or development. Very political. Do not follow through on promises. Employees are treated very poorly if they do not follow the pack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does not want creative, forward thinking leadership. They just want good loyal followers. Need to embrace change.
