    Pros

I love work here at Chemtura. I have learned so much and have been able to move rather fast to a Chemical Operator. I get along great with my boss. The pay is great and so are the beneifets.

    Cons

There really haven't been any cons except for the fact the plant is getting ready to close for good. I wish that wasn'r happening.

    Advice to Management

No secrets. Keeping things from employees are not good. Being upfront and honest is the best way to be with any thing in life.

  2. Overall it was a good experience though could be quite stressfull with all ups/downs of the manufacturing industry.

    Pros

Average on all counts, salary was average, not too innovative, limited chances at promotion as the organization was structurally flat.

    Cons

Reorganization every year without a plan to cover the work. It was cut the people and then realize what work was left to do and then tell the people left that they needed work harder and longer.

    Advice to Management

Plan a little more before you reorganize. If cost reduction is the goal, then rather than cut heads ask the people to figure out how to improve efficiencies to reduce costs. At lot of knowledge is constantly leaving the door and the people with strong skills are looking at better managed companies for their next job.

    Pros

Best practices, mid-range salaries, efficient operations, good benefits, fantastic people

    Cons

    No bonus, small annual increases

    Advice to Management

Offer more to employees to further their skills/education, on an ongoing basis, as they pertain to the job at hand.

    Pros

The employees are good team players and overall good people.

    Cons

Little opportunity for job growth and very little communication between management and employees.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with employees, listen to what they are telling you, respect your employees, and reward their efforts.

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good at Chemtura. The people I worked with were also great. Everyone had lively personalities and just tried to get all their work done everyday. They will happily accept new people and try to make you feel like part of the team. There are also some really smart people there too with a lot of ambition.

    Cons

There very much exists an us v. them culture. No one approved of management as every person had an issue with the level above them. Employee reviews didn't make sense as regardless how well you did, you were never given the score (and thus raise) you deserved. There are a so many people at that company that go under-utilized and under-appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Your older employees have gone through a lot with the divestitures, layoffs, and acquisitions. Treat them with respect for staying around. Show some loyalty and try to make it so they can actually enjoy coming into work. You can not hire new, young talent, and expect them to develop and stay to replace the old herd if the company itself does not become a happier place to work at.

    Pros

BioLab was a great "family" atmosphere company, Had great talent and folks respected one another. Leader in the market with a loyal following.

    Cons

Corporate influence who really didn't understand the business. Subbusiness had to run everything through corporate, causing delay to action, improper decisions and loss of business.

    Advice to Management

Bring back the old executive team who was successful in contributing growth, loyalty in it customers and staff and gave the corporate strong bottom line performance even in bad times. Too much industrial influence in an consumer focused environment. Performance then.... and now...

    Pros

They pay pretty well. Challenging work environment.

    Cons

Expected to be "on the clock" 24/7. Incompetent Sr Management. No loyalty to "the troops". Chrurn and Burn mentality.

    Advice to Management

Sell the firm (if you get the opportunity). Ciba did it to the betterment of employees (BASF is a machine).

    Pros

Salary & benefits are competitive. This is a relatively flat organization, without a lot of layers. It is also very lean (not sure if that is a con, for the work loads it creates).

    Cons

Having to live with the uncertainty of downsizing every September (2012, 2013, 2014). Many have old school managerial styles, unwilling to listen to and execute new ideas. Pretty low morale.

    Advice to Management

Listen. Encourage feedback (not at the top, require lower level managers to solicit feedback. You are getting it too lean to be able to compete and survive for very long.
