My experience at Chenega

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)

I worked at Chenega full-time

ProsPretty good benefits. Flexible schedule. Good pay for some, not so for others.

ConsJob shop: If they lose funding for the task your working on...you're history. Recently cut all of their benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't have enough respect for your employees. You should do a better job finding other work for employees when the company loses contracts.

Chenga contractor with GTW

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Chenega full-time

ProsIt's a job with a paycheck

ConsUnresponsive HR with constant turnover and repeated requests for documents already sent
Forced benefits even for those with Tricare
Forced 401K
Forced HRA card that carries your Health & Wellness benefit pay--so if you don't need it, it might as well not be there. Constantly late with the load--April isn't completed and it's June, etc.
No sick time, only a lump sum PTO of ten days that you get after a year
Knocked 10 year veterans down to entry level pay across the board--some lost $4-$6 an hour
No raises unless mandated by the government
No attendance policy, so abusers have no consequences
The company that admins the benefits is useless if you need answers
No advancement possible
No performace incentives

Advice to Senior ManagementUndercutting the competition is a lousy way to run a business, and your employees suffer for it. We are the ones who are fulfilling your contracts--wouldn't it make more sense to take care of the people who work for you? We have yet to even meet a person from either corporate location....

Chenega Advanced Solutions & Engineering (C.A.S.E.)

Human Resources (Senior Management) (Former Employee)
Norfolk, VA

I worked at Chenega

ProsThe location management was team solid. It is too bad that CASE closed it's doors in early 2011 from lack of full and open contract work.

ConsVery interesting working for an Alaskan Native Corporation. But the HQ's executive staff in Alaska were way too strict in some cases in what they allowed the subsidiaries to accomplish or decisions they needed to make; in other cases the HQ's executives were too lenient. Made for a paranoid management style.

Excellent pay and benefits.

Data Retrieval Specialist (Current Employee)

I have been working at Chenega

ProsThe management is there to help you with any problems regarding benefits, etc... They are a contracting company that leaves you alone if the client is happy. You don't have anyone breathing down your neck.

ConsThe downside is merely contract work in general. Job security is not guaranteed.

Advice to Senior ManagementI feel as though management is doing their part. I haven't had any trouble thus far.
