I worked at Cherokee Insurance Company full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Friendly coworkers and lower management. Lower management is willing to work around schedules. Pay is decent. Great temporary or beginning job.

    Cons

Insurance is expensive, deductibles are high, only covers up to 80% and no vision is offered. Maximum vacation is 3 weeks (after 8 years). No holiday's off and full-time employment is 42.5 hours/week. The building itself is an old with small slits for windows. Heating and cooling in the building barely work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show appreciation for your employees. Holiday parties, barbeques, after-work events and team-building can make a huge difference to the overall health of your company.

I worked at Cherokee Insurance Company full-time

    Pros

    Some friendly employees, decent pay

    Cons

No advancement opportunities at all and you will not get any feedback from management or supervisors unless you ask for it directly. You are offered very little vacation time, and it takes EIGHT full years of service to receive the common 3 weeks off. The computer programs are outdated and the company is not as efficient as they could be because of it. Distribution of work is extremely uneven, some employees are overwhelmed, while others are twiddling their thumbs with boredom. The workspace is not the cleanest, and the building itself is very outdated. Benefits are mediocre.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get involved! Get involved with your employees, their workloads, their tasks, their projects. Get a better idea of what is going on within the day to day activities of the company, so that workloads can be distributed more evenly, and everything can be done more efficiently. If possible, offer perks to those who are progressing and successful, but if that is not feasible, at least utilize the employees that are eager to succeed. With no real goals to work towards or higher opportunities, it may be hard to hold on to employees.

I worked at Cherokee Insurance Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    There are some friendly people

    Cons

No support from upper management, no reviews are given, no advancement opportunity, very minimal or no training, very little vacation time, no help from some supervisors, outdated computer programs, uneven work loads, office building has issues frequently, little to no supervision for those that slack off, no perks or comradery between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Interact with your employees more and listen to their suggestions, they may help. Delegate more responsibility to others. Realize that certain people you have leading your departments may not be 'leading' at all - it's pathetic, distribute the work more evenly, utilize the people that actually try to do a good job. You will lose more than you gain if changes aren't made and there will be constant job turnaround. Your interview questions are horrible. Consult HR or even Google for that matter to obtain appropriate questions.

I worked at Cherokee Insurance Company

    Pros

Very little micro-managing. You are given a job and you can get it done in whatever way you want to get it done. Management is very "hands-off".

    Cons

Drastically understaffed so the work load is over bearing. No training for new employees. Antiquated software and technology. Office is depressing. You have to fight with management to get a review. Their is no recognition for a job well done. Raises are essentially non existent. 50 hour work weeks are mandated and more is expected. Very little vacation time is given and there are stringent restrictions on when you can take it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that empolyees need recognition for a job well done and that they need to be paid a salary that allows them to survive.
