Was a Great place to work before all the changes

EHS Field Representative (Former Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK

I worked at Chesapeake Energy full-time for more than a year

ProsPros – great benefits, campus, 6 month reviews and stock awards twice a year now once a year.

ConsManagement driven by the bottom line, but most of the new VP all came from Anadarko Petroleum, too many changes and making everyone walking on egg shells. the employees are the ones that suffered, VP and CEO still make a nice top income.

Demanding and unpredictable

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Chesapeake Energy

ProsThe company offers good pay depending on the work performed, the best in the OKC Metro by most accounts. Campus is beautiful year round. Employees enjoy a full service fitness center with individual machines and group workouts. Employees have 5 different restaurants to choose from on campus that is exclusively available to employees only (family on Fridays). They also have a 65,000 square foot, state of the art daycare facility with great teachers and a special section designed to care for kids with the flu or other sickness so that parents don't have to miss work.

ConsAll of these amazing benefits are taken out of your hide. You are expected to work at a ridiculously fast rate with insane deadlines. Super stressed out workers are the norm. Also, the performance of the company depends a lot on the cost of oil and gas. Lastly, the company recently underwent a major restructuring and released over 800 people, 640 from their OKC campus.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more honest with the employees about company finance issues.

Nowadays Just a Number at Stressopeak Energy

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Chesapeake Energy full-time

Pros(1)Good pay but no better than industry avg. (2) Prior to current regime change/restructuring, company was annually listed amongst Best Places to Work.

Cons(1) Restructuring business makes a most unpleasant work environment.
(2) Job (if lucky enough to retain one) is unsecure and constantly dangled like the sword of Damocles above your head.
(3) Selection process to achieve desired layoff numbers was biased and unfair.
(4) Bonuses and 401 k match being threatened.
(5) Workplace STRESS every single day, constantly waiting for next shoe to drop.
(6) Lack of trust in regards to upper management and HR.

Advice to Senior ManagementI don't believe this company will EVER be listed among the Best Places to Work again, I invite and challenge you to prove me wrong.
Also, KARMA.

Challenging and Demanding

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Chesapeake Energy

ProsIt is a very challenging atmosphere. Very fast paced and a lot is expected. Many training programs available to better you as an employee and as a person.

ConsPace can be very stressful. Unsure of how change in direction in late 2013 will affect culture and benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't lose sight of your employees. They are your key to building the value of the company.

Down hill fast!!

Title Landman (Current Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK

I have been working at Chesapeake Energy full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat pay and benefits. Top notch facilities.

ConsNew board, new CEO, new focus at the expense of the employees. The atmosphere has tanked and the benefits are being removed one by one. It's not the great place it once was. It might be an ok job for someone who wasn't there when it was great, but I doubt you'll see it on the Forbs top places to work ever again.
