    Pros

Chevron is a challenging work environment. There are a lot of very talented and motivated people that care about the success of the project.

    Cons

No cons to report, it was a pleasure working at the refinery. Safety was always a priority, and it gave a lot of confidence in the people turning the wrenches.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, safety as a value goes a long way in the work going on. Schedule and productivity follows.

    Pros

Ok starting salary but nothing compared to engineers and union workers Good 401K matching (2% contribution to 8% match) Pension after 5 years

    Cons

Extremely poor management Office politics are ever present and management will hold you back to ensure you don't succeed Union workers (operators and mechanics) will easily out earn you and be offered more career advancement opportunities Further education needs to be approved by management, that is it needs to be a business need, although the company says they'll reimburse you for 75% tuition Company is definitely more engineer friendly Poor career opportunities unless you are an engineer

    Advice to Management

Managers should learn to lead their team instead of using condescending management buzz words such as "guidance", "feedback", and "learning opportunities." Managers should also learn how to make sound decisions instead of letting the problem linger. They practice avoidance which causes much more problems further down the line.

I worked at Chevron as a contractor

    Pros

there are couple of things that make this company great. 1- Care for employees, high emphasis on safety even in office jobs. Never in my life I saw stretch breaks emphasized for finance group. 2- Good policies and empathy from higher management if one is facing troubles at home. 3- More emphasis on process, "do things right". 4- Great work life balance.

    Cons

several systems in place, which are not always synced. limited opportunities for individuals, who are not engineers.

I worked at Chevron full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are amazing! The work environment is also great. Additionally, Chevron takes a lot of pride in what it does, while keeping an eye on the environment as well as it's surrounding communities.

    Cons

If your an operator, the rotating shift can be a bit of a challenge. Additionally, the 12 hour shifts can be taxing.

    Advice to Management

    NA

I have been working at Chevron full-time

    Pros

Awesome benefits, great pay. The work certainly isn't boring and can be quite fun and challenging at times.

    Cons

A large population of boomers that does not seem to mesh well with millenials trying to start a career in the industry. The hours can be very hard on your personal life. You are encouraged to bring up safety observations but the leadership often adopts a punitive attitude when you do. When aging equipment and maintenance issues are brought up, their budget is usually the first thing they bring up, in spite of encouraging safety first.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting the wrong people. Please be more thorough in your vetting process when choosing to promote. It is far more important for a candidate to have a great and positive attitude than it is for them to have years of experience. Years alone do not make for a good candidate.

    Pros

An opportunity to meet lots of good people, and develop excellent people skills by working with all types of diverse people.

    Cons

There are lots of job opportunites, but mostly for mechanical and process engineers. People are always reacting to problems, versus being proactive. Very difficult to be focused on 1-2 priorities. There are way too many priorities (I can only speak for El Segundo refinery).

    Advice to Management

Need to empower employees, and need to focus only on top 3-4 priorities versus too many priorities. Have way too many meetings.
