Pros
Employee-focused corporate culture; terrific senior business management team; technologically advanced compared to competitors
Cons
Non-petrotechnical functions not as highly valued as petrotechs.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize the value of support organizations by growing resources allocated to them and placing strong leaders in management roles.
Pros
Large corporation with competitive compensation. Shared IT support on global platform, seamless to all. Safety is always considered first and foremost.
Cons
Ineffective performance evaluations; timliness was not aligned with activities. Upstream won't consider Downstream personnel and Downstream won't look at Chemical's personnel. They don't lidsten enough to their own managers and have to hire consultants to tell them the answer they already know. Too much consensus building required for decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
Cross fertilize your groups and ensure that opportunities are clearly available.
Pros
Good pay, lots of opportunities
Cons
Lots of bureaucracy, huge company/inflexible
Advice to Senior Management
i have none
Pros
Good opportunities for global exposure
Salaries are market competitive
Good access to knowledge, standards, and other reference material
Cons
Employee performance evaluation is Forced Ranking, Chevron's version of the system "accomodates" those close to management preference with a good performance facade. Benchmark used is not clear, camouflaged by a subjective comparison "among peers". The system is a deterrent of teamwork and does not promote innovation.
Advice to Senior Management
Even though 360-feedbacks are in place, performance rewards (salary, career development) are too attached to Forced Ranking, better measures should be put in place to address pitfalls of the system.
Pros
Great benefits and salary package
Cons
The commute to downtown is long from outside areas such as Sugar Land & Katy
Advice to Senior Management
When I was there management seemed to be doing everything to keep employees update on the goals of the company
Pros
Chevron is one of the best companies to work for. They truly follow Chevron Way behaviors and everyone is willing to help everyone else out.
Cons
Some decisions take longer than they should.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work. Continue developing people and the partnerships in the community.
Pros
Good benefits
good pay
the chevron way
good offices
Cons
the red line tape
managers can be rude
Advice to Senior Management
be prepared for interns
Pros
There's a a great team environment and people really care about working there. You're treated well and the work life balance is excellent.
Cons
It's very slow to move on things - lots of processes to go through to get new things established which can be frustrating sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management
Streamline the processes and encourage more innovation.
Pros
Overall benefits package including salary. Multiple job and career opportunities - I've changed careers several times in my 20 years at Chevron. Love the people, the culture and the Chevron Way. Very flexible work hours - I have a great work/life balance. I have travelled the world and worked on some great projects.
Cons
Large corporations can take time to change. Sometimes you need to wait until the time is right for a proposal to gain traction and get implemented.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good job.
Pros
Best reasons to work for Chevron include:
Good work/life balance, competitive pay, good benefits (medical and retirement), pleasant personalities to work with, safety oriented culture, support for ongoing education
Cons
Some of the Cons for working with Chevron include:
Since Chevron is such a large company, it takes a long time to move up the career ladder. Younger, highly motivated and high performing individuals could be discouraged by how long it takes to move into a substantial management and leadership position within the company. Some decisions also take a long time to make due to the conservative nature of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on developing the leaders of tomorrow and providing attractive career opportunities to high-performing employees. While time worked for the company is an important factor, performance and results should be the driving factors for promotions and career opportunities.
