Current Employee – been working at Chevron Phillips Chemical
Pros – Short commute if you live in the Woodlands or surrounding areas; one of the few companies around that still offers a pension package; well capitalized and financially strong as compared to its peers, poised to be a major player in the chemcial business given its international investments; aging middle and senior leadership team means better opportunities as soon as this group begins to retire
Cons – Very lean (sometimes cheap) when it comes to employee perks, limited career opportunities since no employee movement to the larger parent companies; not the best at clearing out the dead weight
Advice to Senior Management – Diversity programs seem to disadvantage those that are not minorities; spending money on employees should be vielwed as an investment in retainage and not an expense

Former Employee – worked at Chevron Phillips Chemical
Pros – Very good opportunity to interact with management. There was very good company culture, employees were expected to be productive but the work environment wasn't extremely driven. CPChem has a very good mentoring program and they attempt to accomodate their employees career goals. Most employees are satisfied with their company experience. Management provided useful feedback through employment.
Cons – The compensation was good but not quite as much as comperable positions in the petroleum industry. If you're looking for a huge company, go somewhere else. Most of the management team is familiar with the management at the other sites. Not all seasoned employees were thrilled to work with new hires but most were helpful.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire enough new engineers to replace your aging workforce.

Former Employee – worked at Chevron Phillips Chemical as an intern for less than a year
Pros – I worked at CPChem as an intern as a process engineer and this was one of my favorite internships. All of the employees (from technical field workers top management) are more than happy to help out and teach, something that's not always the case.
Cons – I only worked there for two months as an intern, and I have no complaints!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Chevron Phillips Chemical
Pros – Great location in Woodlands
Stable company with good pay and benefits, bonus, pension, 9/80 schedule
Small enough company where you get noticed and get opportunities to try different things
Cons – No defined career path or coaching, almost no advancement opportunities
Very lean and understaffed as a result if somone slacks off things fall through the cracks because there is no back up
Many workers over 55 y.o. who are not motivated, don't learn and just waiting to retire. Since the company is so lean, this puts a lot of burden on the remaining employees
Not very good at training or defining operations procedures, everybody fends for themselves
Can be very cheap when it comes to extra spending on employees or making the workplace comfortable or efficient
Management is very old school when it comes to work schedule. Apart from 9/80 there is no flexibility in work hours or working from home parttime. Everyone is expected to be in the office 8 hours a day and not a minute less which is very hard for women with chilldren and that leads to attrition.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer retirement package so that non-motivated older employees can retire and provide some space for more productive workers.
Spend a little bit more on the office to make employees feel welcome, it is dilapidated.
Put more structure around how the work is done.
Think about how to give employees more opportunities to advance.
Also need more opportunities for felixible work arrangements.

Current Employee – been working at Chevron Phillips Chemical
Pros – Strong CEO - open communication to employees and walks the talk
Consistent pay/benefits
Potential for mobility
Safe work environment - heavy focus on safe practices at work and home
Cons – Mobility potential is a carrot, but size of company may limit mobility, especially for those who are unable to relocate
Recent graduates have on-boarding program, but more experienced professionals will have to make a name for and network themselves
Business growth in the middle east, meaning some opportunities for women are limited
Advice to Senior Management – Choose strong candidates to fill jobs, educate them, and then stand back a little. Trust that lessons can be learned from small mistakes and that every detail does not need to be evaluated.

Current Employee – been working at Chevron Phillips Chemical
Pros – It's big enough to have some stability and small enough that you feel you can make a difference. They've consistantly had merit programs and given bonuses.
Cons – Limited opportunities for job changes and growth at mid management level.
Advice to Senior Management – It would be nice have a path to move back into jobs at our parent companies. There's not many chances to move within the organization.
