nothing special, just want the leaders give its employees more free time,ha ha,i want ,no pains, huge gains.
Pros
Good benefits. Good salary. Good people
Cons
Long work hours for several weeks at a time to support production or maintenace.
Pros
Good pay & benefits. Way better than other oil companies. Safety is first. Not really a hard job.
Cons
Shiftwork. Mandatory overtime. Everything computerized unadvantageously. Too many layers of management. Communication could be much improved. Training is basic & not ongoing.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve communications & training.
Pros
401k Match
Defined Pension Plan
Fitness Center
Very smart co workers
Cons
Too many rules and processes
Advice to Senior Management
subsidize the cafeteria
Pros
Good pay and benefits, company-funded retirement program, very good 401K, opportunities for seeking various positions (theoretically speaking).
Cons
Focus is on the upstream business with recent significant reductions in the downstream work force. Shifting management priorities and internal focus on bureacracy and satisfying internal metrics versus the bigger picture items creates frustration and inefficiencies.
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the walk regarding employee development and providing opportunities for advancement. Focus less on internal metrics and more on the external environment, including customers.
Pros
Chevron is an excellent company to have on your resume. Salary and Incentive bonuses are very good.
Cons
The company could do better in developing all employees. Do away with the Jack Welch way and really give employees the feedback they need and assistance to get to where they want to be. Being promoted is normally done through managed moves or reorgs.
Advice to Senior Management
Chevron has been doing business for over 100yrs. Stop paying Consulting Firms to tell you how to run your business. If they knew how to run the Oil & Gas business they'd be in it. I understand manage moves and Personell Development Committees are needed but you rely on them too much. There's a ton of talented employees that you haven't tapped due to this process.
Pros
Challenging work, smart people. People who take initiative / take charge are rewarded. Combination of on-the-job and scheduled training, but you need to own your career. Informal mentoring is available but you need to develop a network.
Cons
Some people get lost in the work processes, lose sight of the value they are trying to deliver. Due to the hazardous nature of the oil and gas business very risk averse, slows decision making, drives up costs. Sometimes feels like decision by committee when intent is to get the right people involved in the decision, which usually means too many people involved in making the decision. Salary administration / promotions can be viewed as favoritism but top performers with visible results are rewarded. To progress your career you need to move to multiple locations. Moving to different locations / work groups is challenging, both professionally and personally - all higher level management has done this.
Advice to Senior Management
To increase profitability need to increase speed of decision making. To increase speed of decision making must accept some mistakes. Reward reasonable risk taking instead of punishing all mistakes.
Pros
Solid and stable company
Great work culture
High performance driven but with personal life balance
Varying assignments
International opportunities
Cons
Aggressively downsizing
people decision are not clear or fair lately, not necesarily performance driven
Outstanding contributions only are recognized when a great deal of pernsonal marketing is made
Has become very political with ongoing downsizing
Advice to Senior Management
Stop masking politics with process
Pros
Well-recognized company with strong reputation.
Very safety conscious and responsible for well being of employees.
Tuition reimbursement for furthering education while employed.
Cons
Little ability for advancement unless willing to move to HQ in San Ramon or office in Houston.
Lack of work flexibility (ie telecommuting, flex-time, etc.)
Advice to Senior Management
To continue to attract and retain the best talent, you will need to become more flexible in work schedules and locations.
Pros
Stable, good pay. Work life balance is achievable.
Cons
Alot of burracracy. Senior leadership is mostly, if not all white men. Women have been passed over for positions in the recent downsizing of the downstream business. Relationships are key to career success.
Advice to Senior Management
Empower employees to make decisions, versus having to send everything to the leadership team.
