I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive salaries, great benefits, fantastic people, and often exciting projects. There is a strong culture encouraging work-life balance and the field safety culture translates into an office culture that is genuinely concerned with the well-being of the employees.

    Cons

As with many companies, when it comes to performance evaluation, it's not what you know...it's who you know. The evaluation process is highly competitive and you need strong managers to fight for you. Also, it is an oil company, so it is subject to industry fluctuations (as evidenced by the layoffs announced around the time of this review).

    Pros

I think the best reason would be because the overall quality and entirety of the chevron tops most when referring to gas and the better quality of customer service.

    Cons

Meeting different people each and every day would to me, be a bit nerve wracking yet enjoyable all at the same time.

    Advice to Management

I think hiring more frequently works better.

    I worked at Chevron full-time

    Pros

Chevron is all about safety. Their motto is, "There's always time to do it right." Their corporate culture fosters safety and personal responsibility at all levels, from the field to the office. Great salary, great benefits, great place to make a career!

    Cons

Difficult to get in. Chevron is very selective about who they employ. They can afford to chose the cream of the crop, which is really not a Con at all.

I have been working at Chevron full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, inclusive culture, good work/life balance, most people get every other Friday off. I have been treated well and have never been asked to work through nights or weekends. Overall the company is a well organized and well run machine.

    Cons

Little career growth potential in the SF bay area, especially with low oil prices and recently announced lay offs (many jobs being relocated to Texas or overseas anyway, eventually HQ expected to go to Texas as well). Not a progressive culture; being a 100 year old oil company it is more interested in preserving the status quo than investing in alternative/renewable energy sources that we will eventually need to convert to. HQ in San Ramon feels very sterile and quiet despite its size. Plenty of room and potential to make it a much more lively and compelling office campus. The company is extremely image conscious and pushes the espousal of safety to absurd limits, especially for an office environment that does not come with the same set of industrial dangers that a refinery or an exploration field would.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to rotate and change jobs within the company more often. So many employees are life-long and have been there 20+ years that any change seems scary. Be more willing to formally train/re-educate people if they want to do something functionally different (beyond the reimbursement for the typical part-time MBA).
