I worked at Chevron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good training opportunities. Offices are top line, anything needed is provided.

    Cons

It's their way or the highway . . . drink the purple Kool-Aid or leave. Upper management reaps hundreds of thousands, if not millions in benefits and stock options while the little guy gets nothing. Complete disregard for the worth of each employee, only the big guy benefits. Posters everywhere saying, "The Chevron Way", kind of like, "Big Brother is watching, so do it our way."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some companies give stock shares down to the lowest level staff. Value is created. You create a pyramid system.

    Pros

Some coworkers like to have work hard and have fun. There is a good work life balance here at Chevron. There is a lot of opportunities to change your interests.

    Cons

The company is really big so things might take a little longer than you would expect. Big change takes a lot of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great opportunities since this is a global company. Meet wonderful people. Great benefits. If you know what you want and where you want to go this is an awesome company.

    Cons

Constant organizational change - must be in the right place at the right time - otherwise you may be caught in a downturn.

I have been working at Chevron as a contractor (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Employee Benefits; emphasis on work life balance

    Cons

Been seeing a lot of re-orgs in the past few years, causing a lot of employee insecurity. A lot of valuable energy that should be used in doing business is now being used to re-post and settle in the new job, before another re-org comes along. Also, if you need to be progressing in your career, you should be willing to relocate to Houston, Texas. That is where all the good jobs seem to be moving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to the staff who do the hands on work, they may have insights that can help you make decisions that save big dollars for the company.

    Great place to work

I have been working at Chevron

    Pros

Pension (one of the few), 400% 401k, lots of vacation, amazing work life balance.

    Cons

Lack of willingness to cut dead weight or hold employees accountable for low productivity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Soft weak employees are not fired. The company has tremendous potential but allows lazy employees to stick around forever. Needs a slightly more competitive work environment.
