I worked at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great Co workers and children to work with.

    Cons

Management isn't very sufficient when Assistance is needed. The 2nd in command does nothing but play with her cell phone all day. She refuses to help anyone and can never assist in solving problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get an assistant that will actually do a job and not. Pass it on to case managers and case aides. Also, take cues from other agencies and start making the Foster parents responsible for the children They are paid for.

Outdated management practices, unrealistic expectations, high turnover, high-stress, low-pay

I worked at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

-depending on your supervisor, you may have a somewhat flexible schedule
    -generous leave time policy

    Cons

-extremely high turnover - don't stress about learning any employee names, they won't be there in 6 months
    -long hours
-most employees are unofficially on-call 24/7
-all employees are expected to work overtime without time/monetary compensation
-management publicly says they want employee feedback and participation, but privately ignores or dismisses employee contributions
-constantly changing policies and ever-increasing paperwork that is often unnecessary
-learning the job is very challenging; the policy manual is enormous
-social workers will run their cars into the ground, with well-below-market reimbursement, on a very low salary
-employees are treated like children (HR admits this)
-raises are insignificant if they are even offered
-employees are given many paid holidays and generous leave time, but are often discouraged from taking it, or are on-call while out of the office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-work-life balance is non-existent, catch up with the times... if you expect people to give 100%, you need to give something back

I have been working at Children's Choice Foster Care and Adoption Agency

    Pros

    Good Pay
    Friendly environment
    Professional growth opportunities
    Excellent management at my location

    Cons

Had to use your own car most of the time to visit with and transport clients
Hours went WAY beyond a normal work day without overtime. This was to accommodate client work schedules and children's school obligations.
All of my clients except one was an hour or more away. So driving, especially in the winter when it got dark early, started to be unacceptable to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get more company cars.
Send caseworkers in pairs in Winter and when hours run into night time or when the client lives in a dangerous or remote area.
