I have been working at Children's Hospital Boston

    Pros

The hospital provides training for students in various parts of the pharmacy throughout the hospital. Also a great place to make connections with pharmacists.

    Cons

    Pharmacy intern management.
Pay is low for interns compared to other hospitals in the area or retail pharmacies.
Interns get a raise once a year.

I worked at Children's Hospital Boston part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The entire mission of the hospital is terrific for the patients and families. I have worked for other hospitals and the upbeat and positivity at Children's is amazing.

    Cons

Some of the nurse managers tend to be controlling and not accept valid and constructive feedback from (non-nurse) employees who are experts on the projects we've worked on for years. I was laid off due to a "department reorganization" in a very brusk, rude, no-notice manner despite many years of employment at the hospital with excellent yearly reviews from former managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees who deal directly with patients and families ... we actually know what we are doing!

I have been working at Children's Hospital Boston full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The majority of people you work with are service-oriented, mission-based experts in their respective fields. They also compose a diverse educational and intellectual background so you're in constant awe of the creativity, expertise, and innovation happening there.

    Cons

There is an unclear career ladder working in administration often leaving you to fend for yourself in terms of developing yourself and moving onto more challenging job roles that use your skills and expertise.

Also, it's a tough decision to make when you want to work for the mission of children's health but you see that your peers with the same experience and background in the "for-profit" sector are making 20,000 + more than you ever will in the next decade. Although the benefits are good, the salary is tough...
