Pros
Only pediatric hospital in the immediate area, great staff physicians, amazing patients, strong community support
Cons
Poor pay, poor benefits, employees are very condescending towards each other creating a negative work environment, managers play favorites, difficult to get time off, hospital offers tuition assistance however makes it difficult to claim, raises are few and far between, raises are small when given, hospital does not recognize employees for excellent work, "guilty until proven innocent" frame of mind
Advice to Senior Management
Support your employees; all the good employees are leaving for hospitals that treat them better, and it's beginning to show in the quality of care.
Pros
If you like working with children and you enjoy children then that will be the main reason you will like it. Noting else in order for you to even be remotely appreciated you need to be a nurse, thats it hands down. if you do any other job in the office its not recognized.
Cons
There are too many to name, a few environment, the doctors, no increase, no promotions etc... Management's not good. It does not matter how many times you contact human resource they do not seem to help you and even when they do management will put a bulls eye on your back and will pick on you until you decide to leave. The office is run in the manner of "Do As I Say, But Not As I Do". They do not practice what they preach and the Doctors, are very uptight and they do not appreciate anything that the staff does. They yell a lot and do not have any sense of decency and management will put non-certified individuals in positions that they are not certified to be in and are not educated to be in. On a whole this company will make you loose your religion. This company is not worth you loosing your sanity over neither yourself.
Advice to Senior Management
Head office needs to do a clean sweep of management all around. Management is not helpful and will not assist you if you have medical issues that need to be taken care of.
Pros
the children
providing care in the only pediatric facility in the region
Cons
lack of professionalism by staff
cliques and favorites are enabled by management
serious concerns go unrecognized and ignored when voiced by employees
little consideration is given for employees personal life and time
childish behavior of professionals in the work environment
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees
Strongly encourage and enforce professionalism in the workplace by all employees, just because it is a children's hospital does not mean the staff need to act childish.
Pros
The care given to the patients is excellent.
Cons
The employees are not treated very well, the pay is poor compared to the extremly high standard of living in this area. They do not give annual raises for a job well-done. Only standard of living raises which is usually less than 10 - 25 cents a year. Whena n emloyee calls in sick they are either given a hard time about it, or made to feel guilty upon their return. Also when there has been emergencies and staff has not been able to come in or leave because of it, the supervisors act like its just another excuse and don't care. They haven't even bothered to ask if everything was OK. The 2 supervisors in my department, were in my exact position less than 1 year ago. They have no managerial experience or training and treat the employees very poorly!
Advice to Senior Management
In departments where the turn-over rate is very high, they need to start looking into the managers & salary and stressful conditions the employees must work in & try to fix it & maybe the rate wouldn't be so high. Also they need to be more flexible when it comes to time. Some departments allow a 6 minute "cushion" on time. If the employee arrives before the time clocks turn over to the next 15 minute increment then the employee is not considered late. But another department states that "you are late if you are 1 minute late." That is an exact quote from a manager. The tunnels and traffic in this area need to be taken into consideration, there are constant accidents and traffic jams that cannot be predicted and change day to day. So "leaving earlier" makes no difference. You can leave at the same time everyday and your arrival time will vary about 5-10 minutes either way, early or late.
