    Lovely place to work

    Research Coordinator (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsThis place is full of brilliant doctors and colleagues. Meaning is built right in to your job. CHOP lets you know they care about you as an employee. The positive atmosphere mixed with the chance to do real good for others is intoxicating. I will go back, if there is a good fit for me in the future.

ConsPay can be low in some positions. It is also difficult to advance, since so many people do not want to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep spreading the meaning and caring...and find more money for your researchers; they are worth it!

    Great place to work---for some

    Registered Nurse (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsExcellent rapport amongst (some) co-workers, Great learning experience--you see a lot of interesting cases.

ConsHard on new nurses. Expects flawless nursing. Too many inner-circles to care much about. Management/Charge nurses can be very one-sided and not understanding.

Advice to Senior ManagementShadow the staff once in a while to see what it's like as a nurse.

    Great place to work overall

    Psychologist (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsGreat benefits, fun work environment, great to be surrounded by a lot of smart people who really love what they do!

ConsChallenging environment if you have children of your own because there isn't an onsite childcare option, and the "you have to come in no matter what the weather or emergency" is admirable for patient care, but really challenging when you have your own little people to worry about too.

    It's all about the money

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWhat we are doing is for the children and that helps. Very talented staff. Location is decent if you want to work in the city and take the train.

ConsNo money for training or conferences unless it's about EPIC. Very political. IS CIO is a doctor and it really shows in how things are run. It's all about making money and "doing more with less"

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a real CIO and you see a real difference in what IS can do for the kids.

    Great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat staff, and a reputation as one of the best hospitals in the country attracts the best medical staff in their field. Great place to start a medical career.

ConsSince the hospital is so popular in the area, it is so competitive to gain employment here. Employment is almost based on who you know in the institution and not your qualifications.

    Review

    Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
    Phila, PA

ProsPrestigious name, nice hospital, pleasant employees for the most part and the hospital is a leader in pediatric healthcare.

ConsIt can be very political. Nursing is not always respected or used to its full capacity, however this problem is unfortunately not unknown to some other healthcare facilities.

Great Place for Medical Staff but No Room for Growth in Research

Clinical Research Coordinator II (Former Employee)
    Philadelphia, PA

ProsWorking for the number 1 children's hospital in the country is awesome. The company works hard to be such and this instills a lot of pride in the employees

ConsIn research, there is not a lot of room for growth and there is very little appreciation for research team members. Faculty only looks for working cogs for their own promotion without promoting staff members.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow for more of a business model when working with research teams. Teams should feel appreciated for their efforts and that each member has an opportunity for growth
