    Pros

The passion for the kids is my favorite part about this organization. The CEO is completely transparent and truly cares about everyone in the CSH family.

    Cons

Making changes in a large organization is hard, so trying to keep in mind the different departments and number of sites can cause the message to get lost. Changes or suggestions don't move as quickly as they sometimes should.

    Pros

Miracles happen here. Seeing a child walk again for the first time is truly inspiring. Some great people, mostly on the clinical side. Wanted so badly to love it here for the kids, but the cons outweighed the pros.

    Cons

Worked in administration for about 3 years - very stressful, no work/life balance. The organization runs very lean on the administrative side so it is not uncommon for one person to be responsible for what a team of four would handle in other organizations. Because of this, there is absolutely no room for growth, and employees are extremely silo-ed. In most cases, managers do not understand their employees' subject area and cannot provide mentoring or support. If you have a vacation day, no one will be able to cover for you, so your boss will call you multiple times until you pick up. Very rude. The CEO plays favorites, and there are a ton of 'office politics' at play here; you have to walk on egg shells around most people. The company is growing and expanding to new sites very quickly, but cannot keep up with hiring new docs or therapists, so the wait time for children to get an appointment is insane, which is very sad. There is also a salary cap for every position, once you hit that cap after yearly raises, you will no longer receive pay increases. Raises are not performance based, so even if you are rated a 5 and the person next to you is rated a 1, you will receive the same raise, so no one is motivated to perform at a high level.

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunities for everyone to grow, not just your favorites. Some of my ex-coworkers (who were lovely, loyal people) spent over 10 years in the same position without ever getting a promotion. People are very loyal to the cause, reward these loyal employees. They deserve it!

    Pros

Helping wonderful children and families to grow; seeing the smiles on their faces Wonderful colleagues who support each other

    Cons

Corporate values are not adhered to by administration Expectations continue to increase with no additional reimbursement No support; management will throw their best employees under the bus Much hypocrisy; all trust has been eroded Morale is at an all time low in all departments Understaffed; expectations are not reasonable even in current medical environment Much turnover in all departments

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees: You went from the best place to work in NJ to one of the worst in less than 10 years.

    Pros

Coworkers and knowing that at the end of the day you are working for the child to live their life to the fullest.

    Cons

Bad management Favoritism Overwork with deadlines Workload meant for 2 to 3 people Management will give you their work on top or your own responsiblities. If you complete they take the credit if not you look bad.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring managers or employees who do little to no work and start hiring people who actually do the job.

Children's Specialized has a superficial well respected name. Working on the inside is a great disappointment.

    Pros

Beautiful new building; kept clean, though hand sanitizer and paper towels often lacking.

    Cons

Hypocritical administration: say to the public one view of how they treat the CSH 'community' and treat employees quite differently. Distant, rigid CEO who has "favorites" and overlooks rules for some; punitive toward others for same rules. So, there is much petty talk; negative remarks are said against people you work with. You do not feel comfortable with all the negative gossip. Narcissistic medical leadership. Wont listen to others' opinions. Overall, no adherence to own advertised 'culture'.

    Advice to Management

All rules should apply to all persons with similar job descriptions. Getting too top-heavy again with more administrators being hired and fewer staff to serve the children and families. Replace the chief doctor. Stop nepotism.

    Pros

You get to help disabled children and it's very rewarding to see the children smile because of what you do for them.

    Cons

It is difficult to work when the nurses and assistants are nasty. And it takes a lot of time that they don't give you, to learn the needs for these children. The staff expect you learn it in one week.

    Pros

    Getting to work with children.

    Cons

The vacation/sick time policy is a massive joke! You have vacation time that you accumulate, as well as sick time. It is impossible to accumulate any vacation time because of the fact that your vacation time is basically your sick time. For example, if you had a small cold and needed to be out for two days, the time that is used is your vacation time, not your sick time. The only way you are able to use your actual sick time is if you are out more than two days but if this is the case, the first two days are still taken out of your vacation time and then the third day and on becomes your sick time. So basically plan on never getting to take a vacation. Another con about this company is when it comes to your performance review. Let's look at the name here "performance review", which means that the work you do as an individual should be looked at an assessed. Well this is the exact opposite of what actually happens. There are people who will literally bust their butts doing work from the time they come in, till the time they leave. Then there are people who do absolutely no work at all. Since there are people who don't do any work at all on a daily basis, their work gets passed onto or I should say gets dumped onto the people who are already doing their own work. Essentially, the people who are actually doing their job, are also doing a few other people's job work load wise and don't get compensated at all. So when it comes to the performance reviews, you will not ever get a raise based on what you actually do no matter how much work you do because the company will compensate everybody with all the same raise, including the people who don't do anything. You are working in an environment where you know there are people who are literally getting paid to just sit there. Another con about this job is the management team and the fact that they play favorites. It is very clear to see when this is going on in the company because there will be people who will disregard whatever rules there actually are because they never get penalized for anything. Then there are people who actually follow the rules and they are the ones who will get penalized or spoken to about for the same things the other people are doing. Another con about the management team is that there is never any communication as to what needs to be done, there's absolutely no organization to anything and due to this there is no efficiency in anything taking place. The same issues are brought up at every meeting, even though you will be told that it's going to be worked on or fixed. Nothing ever gets fixed, it's always the same problems, the company just runs in a complete circle because of these types of things. In total, if you are looking for a job where there are no opportunities to move up, you get piles and piles of worked dumped onto and you don't get compensated for anything and get penalized for following the rules, than this is the job for you!!!!!

    Advice to Management

Some advice to the upper management would be to actually do your job!

Health insurance and working with children

    Cons

Little vacation time, employee favoritism, lack of communication, no work life balance, if you are a good worker you get more work while others skate by on bare minimum.

    Advice to Management

Monitor work and make employees accountable for work, fire people who call out excessively and do little work.

    Pros

beautiful facility, top rate care, great nurses

    Cons

management less than acceptable, no communication between nurse manager and nurses, scheduling done by a secretary atrocious, holidays you did't even get a meal had to pay for by self, paper towels always empty in the rooms, nothing to dry hands after washing, when short staffed nurse manager never stepped in to help on the floor just sat at her desk on the computer making it dangerous for nurse:patient acuity

    Advice to Management

let nurses do their own scheduling, management needs to communicate with nurses, nurse managers shouldn't be afraid to touch a patient and help out if needed
