I worked at Chili's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My experience may not apply to everyone, but I loved working at Chili's, especially compared to other restaurants. Everything was standardized, and everyone was expected to meet that standard. My managers were pretty great for the most part. The training program prepares you for your position adequately.

    Cons

Difficult shifts if you want to have a social life. You're either working all night or all afternoon, so your friends usually become coworkers, which may be a good or bad thing depending on who you work with. Personally, I loved my coworkers. They're like a second family. Most of us have moved on to other jobs, but we frequently make time to visit with each other.

    Pros

Fun environment, easy money, brinker is a great company to work for

    Cons

No bussers, managers expect you to do everything all at once and you can't even stop to breathe, if you start out not serving you have no hope of moving up

Former Employee - Server, QA, Prep Cook, Hostess, To-Go in Houston, TX

I worked at Chili's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Semi-Flexible hours. Depending of the restaurant, you could make decent money even if your managers didn't like you. Always understaffed so you'll always have plenty of hours.

    Cons

They hire incompetent managers and promote favorites instead of dedicated and hardworking employees. Seniority will get you everywhere even if you don't work hard. Unorganized when shifting leadership. Overworks kitchen staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to have a third party come in and monitor employees before choosing who to promote solely based on the store management team. Really see who is doing the work, not who the management favors. There is way to much bias at all 5 locations I've worked at around Texas.

    I worked at Chili's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun, fast paced, short shifts, flexible schedule

    Cons

Terrible pay, terrible tips, no communication between managers, some customers are allowed to abuse employees and get away with it, management is unconcerned with any issues you may have, other employees can be back stabbing, competitive, and a lot of very young, entitled, and disrespectful employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Chili's part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

fun, fast-paced environment, easy to transfer and continue employment, experience many different management styles, decent income, short shifts

    Cons

must become an excellent budgeter because there are you never know how much you'll make from shift to shift. there are also no set hours, so it can be a challenge to balance work and family life. managers often make the same money if not a little less than servers, so there's not much motivation to advance in the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

promote from within...please!!! the managers I train from outside the company almost never work out for the long term! continuously return to basic training and priorities... once they begin to fall away, the "trainers" stop reinforcing these things as well, and it is a very predictable digression that is easily avoidable with preventative management- please stop assuming that everyone will continue to do things the way they're supposed to be done- in the end, even the managers seem to have forgotten.

    I worked at Chili's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities to build team working skills. Friendly atmosphere, most everyone is very willing to help when needed. Compensation determines how much you put in. You will see higher tips if you put in the work.

    Cons

Some managers can make the job more difficult than it should be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be friendly with your employees and your store will run more smoothly. Don't be dictators. Happy employees don't make mistakes. Happy employees make customers happy, make more money themselves, and more money for the store.
