    Pros

    Company has great technology that really solves a specific problem in the ASIC market. The company also has a strong engineering team in the US, as well as good quality management. Customer rate us well in customer satisfaction surveys.

    Cons

    CEO is either absent, or goes home early in the afternoon. Lack of vision from management, and poor execution on plans. Management seems gulllible and inexperienced, despite age and previous exec. roles in company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trust your staff to do the right thing, OR rule the company as a dictator and accept responsibility for the results.

    Pros

    A lot of time off. 26 days of force vacations one year(that equals to 10% pay cut, 1 day per two week(10 working days). There is no car in parking lot after 7:00PM no matter how urgent is the project. Anytime you submit a vacation request, it will get approved for sure. There will be shut down for one week or longer from time to time.

    Cons

    There are 1 CEO, 4 VPs, 1 CFO, 7 directors, 1 Finance controller, 9 managers in ChipX with total around 50 employees in US. Most of the operation cost are salary for them but not investment on technology or knowledge improvement.
    This company doesn't care engineers at all. They think they can always find someone cheap in the job market.
    There is no salary increase at all. They don't even mention that to employees. Only the managers are told so during performance review.
    The air conditions always broke at the hottest days also since it's a very old building.

    Focus on improve business.

    Pros

    Asia Responsibility
    Good interface with immediate manager when he had time
    Employment opportunity during the worst industry downturn in modern US history

    Cons

    Corporate financial weakness
    Product limitations
    Downsized staff limited support
    Merger with GigOptix gutted the company
    Lack of budget limited my ability to travel and support business development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Company managment never directly solved the problem of how to succed in a changing ASIC marketplace as as fabless company
    GigOptix CEO is a tech guy that needs to understand that good managemmet does not mean buying other companies and firing most of the employees to extend the life of a concept he beileves in but has not been successful in executing. This is a tactic which at best delays the inevitable result - failure.
