  1. I'm sure depending on which choice hotel, and which private franchise owner you work for, the experience you have varies

    Pros

Can do my personal duties on pc while not active doing work on the job, at the front desk area. Great for going to college, getting paid while doing work and able to do some homework. Hotel group discounts for self, family, this is pretty awesome.

    Cons

no insurance at my location poor scheduling at my location, even though i was able to attend school while working here. boring half the time, working weekends, covering others shifts, and sleeping at the hotel to work 2nd then 1st shift while the boss roams around town and does not want to hire the proper amount of employees or schedule properly never wanting to give a real promotion or raise in pay because he is the business owner and doesn't care if i make any money while basically having me work a position of team lead basically on call without paying me any more than other associates

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they are worth or find another way to reward them like time off, better scheduling. Don't be a small business crook, I actually have bills to pay just like everyone else.

    Pros

Meeting new people everyday. Good staff to work with (for the most part). Occasional tips.

    Cons

Franchise culture. Unappreciative, dishonest owners. No benefits, no paid time off, no perks at all.

    Advice to Management

The owners need to stay out of the way of good, competent manager.

    Pros

They have a large amount of hotels meaning you will be supporting a large segment of hotel owners and management companies.

    Cons

Since Choice Hotels does not manage a single hotel, corporate earnings and number of franchises are the priority. Yes, hotel specific metrics such as ADR, OCC, RevPAR help move the needle, the management focus from senior leadership focus more on ensuring a EPS that enables stockholder growth and Senior Leadership bonus payouts.

Good employee resources, nice offices, nice perks depending on the position/role, big international consumer brands

    Cons

High school politics are preferred by some (not all!); pay scale and bonus plan especially favor senior management

Improve bonus plan specifically for lower level employees (currently non-existent)
