  5. Use to be a great place to work.

I worked at Christian Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

When I started as a patient tech at the age of 22 on a critical care unit the experience was priceless.

    Tuition re-embursment

    Cons

With years of corporate change and job duties offset to the nurses, the company gives little worth to patient care techs, clerical associates, and cardiac monitor technicians. Bonuses are for nurses only, even in bad weather and staff crunches.

Be prepared that the person most trained for the job is not always the one who gets it. There is a lot of politics.

    Advice to Management

Recommend re-evaluating the procedure of interviewing transfer employees between floors/departments. Possibly changing the rating system to incorporate qualifications.

Nurses are important, but so are the other members of the "team," bonuses need to available to everyone in times of staff crunches and bad weather.

Cost of living increases should also be considered for all staff and not just nursing.

    Pros

One year here is like five years anywhere else. You get to see all sides of urban medicine.

    Cons

Always looking over your shoulder to see if you are being set up or tested. Always in fear for your job. Management does not care about you, just the bottom line and how they look to upper management. Micromanagement runs rampant here.

    Advice to Management

Let the employees do their jobs with out fear, harassment, or inordinate amount of trivial hoops to jump through. Back your employees, stand up for them.

  8. High volume area

    Pros

High volume area...you will have a ton of experience in 6 months

    Cons

very mismanaged...EMS department is the red headed step child of BJC. Future is very cloudy

    Advice to Management

    LISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, top nurse executive is very approachable and great to work for/with, opportunities for advancement. Upper management are all, in general, very friendly. I've never seen that in any other organization. Most days as I'm walking out with staff from other floors/units I hear that they had a good shift. Overall staff seems satisfied.

    Cons

The organization will have to work to get the community to know it's as good of a hospital as it is. As with most hospitals right now, revenue is down which creates some feeling of instability.

    Advice to Management

Get some testimonials out to the public from our patients who have had great experiences. Keep us informed of changes that may be coming.

    Pros

Almost all employees are doing their level best for the patients, very innovative and current for a community hospital, has many 20+ year employees

    Cons

Major bureaucracy and to much management secrecy-practically every decision has to be run through multiple committees before implementation, CH was more employee friendly place to work before it became the "C" in the BJC Health Care System

    Advice to Management

Total transparency in management and engage your employees with progressive responsibilities to increase job satisfaction

    Pros

Close knit family, a lot of support in the area I was working in

    Cons

Staying short staff, for a long periods of time.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they know what they are talking about.
