Pros
Broad area of responsibility so learning is enabled as a means of survival. More positive attitude since Fiat on board.
Cons
Buy out packages in 2008 has left the company with large voids in both experieince and middle management talent. The matrix organization has the working level confused.
Advice to Senior Management
Reconsider bringinb back the talent pool that was given V tip packages to leave. Most left because they felt their job was at risk and getting the package was better than getting nothing.
Pros
Great pay and benefits here at chrylser.
Cons
The long work hours and log days.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn world class manufacturing.
Pros
Bankruptcy has made us "lean and mean" with renewed focus on getting the right product available for customers which will lead to continued growth and success. As an employee, I have noticed a positive change in the decision-making from management - with more focus on "do it right" than "how cheap can we do it". This change in thinking produced the amazing 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and will continue to enable Chrysler to develop exceptional product and be successful going forward.
Cons
As with any large company, there is "red tape" to be dealt with in going through day-to-day business. This can be frustrating but in general the learning curve is manageable and making key relationships work can help individuals "get things done".
Pros
Benefits & car discounts are the only incentives to work in this company. The pay is ok and the cafeteria is good. Thats where it ends.
Cons
Chaos!! Politics and the old boys club that do nothing all day!! The residue from the 2008 situation who did not take the package are the majority of the workforce in the company.
Advice to Senior Management
You guys need to get rid of all the Sr Managers in some areas of the organization. Especially the ones who have been in the company for 20+ years. There are some good leaders in the organization but you need to speed up in cleaning the residue from the 2008 situation.
Pros
I enjoyed working with the Management staff.
Cons
I disliked the work ethics of the employees and constantly having to deal with the union.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the union!
Pros
Good benefits, great company/field car program, expenses, laptop, internet.
Cons
Below average pay for the amount of work and time needed to accomplish. High pressure environment. Top management, in a panic, as sales spiraled down, would insist on completing wholesale objectives at all costs. This attitude compromised the integrity among field employees and the relationship that they had with the dealer body.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit paying yourselves huge bonuses and salaries when all indicators show poor results. Abolish the sales and marketing rebate games and gimmicks and take the short term financial losses in order to develop better products that require no cash on the hood.
Pros
good company with great benefits
Cons
plant shutdowns because jobs were moved to other countries
Advice to Senior Management
get rid of deadbeat workers
Pros
Great pay and benefits, sometimes all of the overtime you would want and more. Good people to work for and great people to work with.
Cons
Long hours, sometimes.
Not a recession proof industry.
Rumors of all kinds constantly floating around.
Usually employees are the last to find out about current affairs within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to continue to develop communication skills, where openness and honesty prevail. If you cannot trust the place you work, it can be detrimental to the work environment.
Pros
The working-level people are great. They work cohesively and they feel strongly about creating a quality product. It is nice to develop a product that you are likely to use yourself.
Cons
There is an over-emphasis on University-level degrees, particularly the MBA. Degrees are certainly EXTREMELY helpful in providing knowledge, but they are not the only route to knowledge and skills. Some jobs are restricted based on having a Master's degree. Further jobs are restricted to MBAs.
Advice to Senior Management
Make a point of listening to employees. Actively solicit information from ALL levels of the company. Develop some goals for yourself and your direct-reports that would require 5-years or more to accomplish. Some of the most beneficial activities a company can acheive take time to achieve. Let yourself be measured on yearly progress toward those goals (allowing for fine tuning of those goals to accommodate factors that are external to you and the company.)
Pros
Committed employees
Sergio Marchionne is a strong leader
Interesting industry
Perhaps on the verge of becoming a top tier auto company
Cons
Lots of risk
Government ownership
Still too bureaucratic
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the momentum going, keep shaking things up
