I have been working at Chubb Corp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

People, compensation, opportunities for training, mentoring programs, flexibility to WFH, reputation for excellence, career paths

    Cons

Bare bones staff, increasing reliance on consultants, very political, the company name, and lack of general awareness by consumers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Modify company name. Make it known what is required to become an officer so there is full transparency and proof it's not who you know but what you know.

    Pros

Great work environment, fosters collaboration, challenges you to think critically, and develops a useful subject matter expertise in a truly unique line of business. I feel that I am able to contribute from the minute I walk in the door to when I leave.

    Cons

Standard to that of any bureaucratic organization, sometimes chain of command issues can be difficult to navigate. Otherwise, nothing of note.

I have been working at Chubb Corp

    Pros

Chubb is a great place to start your career. The company provides many learning opportunities and wants its employees to succeed. Management is very knowledgable and easy to access.

    Cons

The only con is that compensation remains fairly average as compared to the rest of the industry. Chubb does attempt to make up for this shortcoming through profit sharing programs and year end bonuses.

I have been working at Chubb Corp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Open postings for opportunities, strong compensation.

    Cons

Relocation benefits have decreased making opportunities limited to local geography. Flattened organization does put stress on employees at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in young talent but find ways to reward the many experienced staff.

I have been working at Chubb Corp full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

-Being trained at Chubb to be an underwriter is great on a resume.
-Work-life balance is fantastic and management is very flexible.
-Senior management have proven to be great mentors. They want you to succeed.
-At this point in my career, I feel there's room for advancement, which helps motivate me.
    -Great benefits
-Friendly and supportive coworkers. I enjoy coming to work each day.

    Cons

-I wish the pay was a little higher, but doesn't everyone?
    -The technology isn't great.
-Colleagues feel it takes a long time to get promoted.
-A clearer path to a promotion is what many want.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since Finnegan took over in 2002, he has consolidated the company and "trimmed the fat" off the company. It's much more cost-conscious now than it once was. That's great for shareholders but not as great for employees. More money could be spent on technological improvements instead of buying back shares (i.e. $1.5 billion spent in January 2014). Also, the elimination of many leadership positions means that there are fewer spots for younger employees to move into. That being said, the insurance industry being one that has a higher average age than say finance, impending retirements in the next ten years or so will allow for more advancement down the line.

My advice: Recognize employees who perform well with promotions and raises so talent stays here.
