I have been working at Chubb Corp full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Smart, driven colleagues, fantastic brand and knowledge base in the industry. Very collaborative approach, everything from underwriting to managing a group. Lots of support and a very strong culture. HEAVY promoters of talent from within. Higher % of compensation variable, from what I've seen from other competitors.

    Cons

Slow to move in the face of change. Do what they do very well, but hesitant to embrace new ideas/less entrepreneurial. Strong political culture, important to network internally for success. The pending acquisition by ACE provides a lot of uncertainty.

    Advice to Management

Senior management did a great job turning around an unprofitable P&C operation from 10 years ago and posting fantastic results. Collaborating between SBU silos and bringing teams together would benefit the company, as well as being more adaptive to new opportunities in the market.

I worked at Chubb Corp full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast-past, energetic, competitive, goal-oriented company; good for new entrants into insurance marketing/underwriting; compensation/bonus/profit-sharing/chairman's award pay available for high performers; great benefits; well-respected company in the LGBT community

    Cons

Senior management slow to act on unique opportunities; IT solutions are out-dated; recent acquisition by ACE could hurt long-term employees who may "age-out"

    Advice to Management

Hold on to talent through the merger as they quickly become competition with a lot of intellectual property

I have been working at Chubb Corp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great culture. Very focused on the customer. Good work-life balance. Ability to have flex time or work at home with manager approval. People are friendly, helpful and genuinely care about each other. Hopeful this all remains once the integration with ACE is complete.

    Cons

Company is often slow moving and not innovative. Stagnant growth due to lack of investment. CEO and Executive Committee are poor, invisible leaders. Recent acquisition by ACE Limited was announced via a posting on the intranet site - not even an email to employees and zero in-person communication from the CEO/EC. It left many employees feeling disrespected.

    Advice to Management

Hopeful that new CEO may breath life into this great brand, which has rested on its laurels for too long. I'd recommend ACE leaders look to retain Chubb's great qualities while building and growing.

    Pros

Claims excellence and dedication to doing the right thing for clients. Good work/life balance Excellent focus on diversity and inclusion

    Cons

Just purchased by ACE group and culture clash is expected. Historically slow moving.

    Advice to Management

Maintain as much of the culture as possible, particularly the ERG's and focus on diversity and inclusion. Maintain claims excellence so employees and clients still have ultimate confidence in the company.

    Pros

The company is flexible with those who perform and provides a solid work / life balance. There are excellent benefits. The reporting structure is knowledgeable and easy to work with.

    Cons

The company takes a long time to make decisions. There are some technological deficiencies that could lead to a slower pace.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Great Work Life Balance - Work from home highly encouraged, once justified. Thoughtful approach to underwriting. Very friendly and helpful teams - People make time to assist each other

    Cons

Very political. Often feels like you need to know someone to get ahead in what's a very flat organization. People are so nice sometimes that you can't get open, honest advice.

    Advice to Management

Be honest! It is nice to be nice but straightforward, open conversations can help employees to understand how they are doing and what's expected of them

I worked at Chubb Corp full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Chubb lives up to its reputation of being the best insurer and providing the best coverage, with a culture that strives to achieve that mission. Great PTO offerings, good bonus structure for high performers, great people with good camaraderie. A lot of long-time employees.

    Cons

Continual reduction in field claim staff over my 13 years with Chubb resulted in unreasonable increases in demand of travel by property claim adjusters. Requirement to be "on call" for catastrophes 3 months each year with the expectation that you are available 1-2 weeks before and after each month in essence makes you "on call" 5+ months per year. Many/most advancement opportunities require relocation, which the company will not fund.

    Advice to Management

Quit stretching your claim staff too thin. The expense you save is detrimental to the customer experience. They're paying much higher premiums than the would elsewhere to receive the best service possible, but you're not putting your employees in the best position to succeed.
