    Pros

The organization has some great people who understand the verticals. Sadly, Ciber does not make an effort to keep them. Ciber continues to bleed its top performers to CedarCreston, Deloitte and Oracle due to culture..not necessarily $$. Firm has potential but only with the right leadership.

    Cons

Poor leadership. Company is trying to transition from a body shop to a Big 5 consulting firm with poor execution at the helm.
Very contentious/negative environment with Senior Consulting staff in evaluating potential deals and pipeline.
Chicago style leadership - Intimidation, Fear and 24x7 work schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate what kind of culture you want in an effort to build a successful organization.
Mixing the old management with the new management. Both of which are disconnected from the employees. Very impersonal.
Have a real marketing plan with Cloud.

    Pros

Great people, boatloads of work in the pipeline, relaxed dress code, flex time & work-life balance, good equipment to work on, nice facilities, bench for full-timers.

    Cons

Salary is 5k less than what I would like, but the bench is a fair trade. In other cases, I would just be unemployed between projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should do quarterly reviews & bonuses instead of annual ones.

Making the shift from staffing company to consulting company

    Current Employee - Consultant

    Pros

Ciber is still small enough that there is not as much red tape and layers of management as larger consulting companies.

    Cons

Executive leadership has experienced a great deal of turnover in the last several years. With that has come other organizational and process changes. I have had to re teach uplinks quite a few times. It has been difficult to have consistent client performance and account planning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a vision and strategy and then consistently work towards it, even as the players may change. Create an organization culture that is also focused on the vision and strategy so everyone is working as a team and going in the same direction.

    Pros

Great co-workers who really support each other on deployed project teams. The CEO really tries to create a good working environment for the employees.

    Cons

The sales force fails to consistently bring in enough contracts to keep a stable workforce, so there is a constant thrashing about as existing consultants are let go and new consultants hired.

There is also far too much focus on utilizing off-shore coding factories at the expense of having customer-facing developers and team members readily available to react to customer needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-tool sales to fight for business that is achievable and sustainable.

    Pros

Benefits are good. Work life balance is great. Challenging and fulfilling work that is value added to the bottom line.

    Cons

There are challenges with trying to meet what the sales team has promised to the client. Leadership can seem to be unfocused at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be helpful to know that the people responsible for the back office support are appreciated.

    Pros

There remain lots of good people who care about their work and their clients.

    Cons

A deterioration of commitment to employees and clients. The sole focus is shareholders. But with only one leg of the stool, it is tipping over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO stated that he sees employees as "tools". He pushed a culture of them vs. us (execs vs. everyone else). He brought in new leadership that had the same lack of compassion and human decency. How do you advise those who have no conscience?

Local Director Makes All The Difference

Current Employee - Consultant  in  Orlando, FL
Current Employee - Consultant in Orlando, FL

    Pros

The employees are very good at what they do. There was a lot of flexibility with scheduling and you can get a lot of experience in different industries with large clients.

    Cons

Each office is run differently, so there really isn't a consistent experience. For the most part, everyone is a mercenary but work together well. In some cases it really isn't more than an IT staffing firm. Some benefits were denied by local area director and motivators were usually way out of synch with the workforce. When a $1B company can't pay $250 for a professional membership, it's time to leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a stronger vision and unify everyone to make being a part of Ciber feel like being on one team.

    Pros

Great industry, some really great people. It could be a great place to work, if politics were not the Soup DeJour!

    Cons

Very poor management - hostile and condescending right from the start. I was truly sadden by the cruel and unprofessional behavior of the managers. Training was none existent and expectations not well outlined, They claimed they had an "open door", but retribution was absolute. Run away from any contact with this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people with respect and work on training. You are running a professional business not a high school. When I was hired I was told that Ciber had very little attrition, that was a lie, If you expect potential employees to be truthful you should be as well. I would not this company!
