    Pros

Stable, friendly work environment with very accomplished technology. They openly use acquisitions to broaden the product portfolio and integrate those technologies into their core competencies.

    Cons

Very political for such a small-ish company in a competitive landscape of giant corporations, and therefore slow to address glaring issues. Products, and therefore resources are in distinct silos. Cooperation and collaboration is therefore up to individuals to reach across the silos to create solutions for a given customer. Executive management is isolated.

    Advice to Management

Wake up to the reality of what is transpiring in the every day competitive landscape. Your lieutenants are working diligently, and effectively to isolate you from very critical needs and strategic errors.

    Pros

Freedom to work and accomplish goals with any micromanaging Management works with employee on goals and lets them go after them. Forward looking product marketing. Good acquisitions over past 8 years.

    Cons

Individual is on his own to figure out how to accomplish goals.

I have been working at Ciena full-time

    Pros

Ideal sized company that gives you lots of flexibility and autonomy. Has been a great experience. Friendly people. Decent pay.

    Cons

Growing into a larger, more process-oriented company, so losing some of that start up mentality and culture. Inconsistent leveling from team to team. Too easy for dead weight to linger.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to maintain the Cienaness that makes the place special. Don't be afraid to make the tough call. It's too easy to coast at Ciena, and a not-insignificant number of people are doing so.

I have been working at Ciena full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great management team. better than average salary ranges. flexible hours available. plenty of OT.

    Cons

company is moving the division that I am currently employed in to Mexico in 2016, forcing a drastic reduction in work force numbers. After the notice of the pending lay-offs, corporate still sent out company e-mails telling ALL employees how good the quarter was going, how profits were higher than expected. Very poor ethical treatment of it's employees.

    Advice to Management

STOP sending out corporate e-mails informing employees how GREAT the company is doing. How much money(via sales %) the executives will be making in bonuses in 2015.

    Pros

Flexible hours. Worked with cutting edge hardware technology. Great team of people to work with.

    Cons

Culture is changing with latest aquisition of Nortel. Not much career growth.

    Advice to Management
