I worked at Cincinnati Zoo as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

you get to meet new people and learn new things about the animals

    Cons

the only con was the fact that they did not hire most of the people who worked for them as volunteers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

some of the volunteers should get hired after the have work with the cincinnati zoo for 3 months

I have been working at Cincinnati Zoo part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Overly positive work environment, good incentives, easy interview process, nice to make guests smile and see their reaction to the zoo.

    Cons

They clearly show favoritism and only hire specific people back every summer and leave you empty handed, even though you are encouraged to apply after FOL.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

BE MORE PROFESSIONAL. Everybody acts so high school in the way they interact with each other and handle personal problems.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Cincinnati Zoo

    Pros

The job is very easy with touch screen computers. Fast paced on some days.

    Cons

You have to lock your money in the safe every time you walk away from your drawer. Sometimes that is time consuming. Some people are really rude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees more leeway with dealing with stupid people.

I worked at Cincinnati Zoo part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff is friendly and laid-back. working at a zoo is a happy job in general. I loved seeing people's faces light up when I told them I worked there. The work was relatively easy and the hourly pay was good for a college student looking to earn some pocket money.

    Cons

For festival of lights, the outside shifts were unbearable. The summer heat could be pretty brutal as well. Mostly it was the angry visitors that were the worst to deal with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incentive programs for sales are effective, but high-pressure sales tactics at the zoo seemed unnecessary at times.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook

    I worked at Cincinnati Zoo

    Pros

Very old school style management. Great research facility for the animals. Recommend this for higher level researchers or else job kinda stinks

    Cons

Management older and less flexible. Facilities older and break a lot. Job contingent in public funding. Sense of favoritism abounds.
