    I worked at Cincom

    Pros

Relaxed environment. Plenty of opportunity to try out new technologies.

    Cons

No salary increases ever. Always seemed to blame poor sales. Lots of family members running the place.

I have been working at Cincom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

a few really good folks there, work-life ok.

    Cons

many folks have never worked anywhere else, most have not had a salary increase for over 5 years, no 401k match, very much living in the past, like 1970s past!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

time to shut the doors for good.

I worked at Cincom full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Relatively stable with a good work-life balance and understanding of family needs. In general few people will get in the way of your work if you have an idea and want to pursue it. You can make your way in some areas and they like to promote from within.

    Cons

From a marketers perspective it is still a sales driven organization. Sales seems to be continuously looking for the next thing which can make them difficult to support. Being able to make your way is necessary because there isn't consistent direction or input. There is a lot of inertia to change in some instances. No real growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand your products, brand and the market. Get outside opinions from customers and prospects. And listen. Stay focused.

I worked at Cincom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Otherwise, none.

    Cons

Horrible leadership, management and vision. Has dropped from a former 200 million plus company to likely 75 million and leaking cash. Technologies and design behind most products ignores actual customer business requirements. Few business analyst left who understand industries and business practices and those who do have no input into product engineering and design. Nepotism and cronyism are rampant, incompetence reigns!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell it off so those that remain have a fighting chance to turn it around with sound management and leadership.

I worked at Cincom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the most part, good people do work here. They truly want to offer the best Cincom can possibly offer to our customers and these people work very hard to ensure our customers are satisfied.

    Cons

Originally, I believed the biggest challenge at Cincom stemmed from a lack of established processes. However, I now realize that inflated egos, office politics and administrative incompetencies have proven to be the bigger obstacles. These dynamics are not conducive to innovation and productivity. This toxic and dysfunctional 50-year old company operates like a start-up rampant with nepotism and cronyism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a few talented managers but for the most part, very poor ones.

I have been working at Cincom full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility to work at home or in office. Employee culture is warm and caring, keeps the longtime Cincomers happy.

    Cons

Family run business and the family doesn't know how to run their business. Imagine a software company were the developers are on old hardware and older releases of software, the IT manager thinks he is doing his job well.
No pay raises in years, Cyclical layoffs have dwindled the staff to half what it was 10 years ago.

I worked at Cincom full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent product offerings. Some very good, skilled and talented people. Most at the non-management and mid-management level. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Poor management decisions are made at the highest level and continue to be made year after year. Excellent people let go due to restructuring based on salary, not experience or real worth.
Very poor Marketing for very good products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to really understand all what is going on in each department. They are removed from day to day operations and thus make non-informed decisions that are detrimental to the company as a whole.

    I worked at Cincom full-time

    Pros

Longevity in business, strategic products back in the day.

    Cons

Major issues at the head of the helm with pervasive nepotism existing for many years. Supporting staff builds up and supports this culture and leader's ego for job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Elect board and allow them to recruit and manage go forward strategy.

I worked at Cincom full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some really talented and skilled people... Most are very skilled, nice to work with, very helpful, and understanding. But also some incompetent people who use their people skills to make up for lack of technical skills or aptitude. Often office politics trump education, experience, and aptitude....

    Cons

Have seen them let go of their most skilled talent in order to save money without realizing that cheapest is not always least expensive... Base lay-off decisions solely on salary and not education, experience, or aptitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Good Luck....
