Easy work, good perks, but low pay and overly-controlling policies

    Concessionist (Current Employee) Tulsa, OK

ProsThe perks are awesome: free movies, access to posters and other ad material, half off food items and free drink and popcorn during shift. The work is simple, no-brainer stuff. It is perfect, in my opinion, to use as a starting job, or for an easy, no stress workplace

ConsThe pay is really static and hard to work towards; this establishment seems more geared towards easy, unambitious work than work hard to earn more. Also, the management, or possibly the corporation as a whole, seems to prefer catering to policies of the company instead of compromising with employees on an individual basis; the shifts are lengthy and only involve one thrity-to-forty-five minute break, regardless of how long you've been working

Advice to Senior ManagementGive employees some drive to do more than the bare minimum; punish insubordinate employees more than those who forget simple issues; be sure to allow employees to train into other departments without issue (a problem many concessionists at my location have issues with); be more flexible with shifts

    not a bad starting job

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosthe co-workers are friendly, you can definitely make friends there, it's not a difficult job to obtain, you get access to free movies, as well as popcorn and discount on other concession items

Consit's hard to get wage raises even if you are incredibly good at your job. few benefits outside free movies, work can be tiresome during busy weekends, and your schedule changes week by week

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

First job turned into career I love!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe obvious first is being around movies, as a huge movie buff I love knowing what's out, what's new and anything to do with movies. Second the perks, free movies!

ConsTraining is still a work in progress. Trying to switch to computer training. Second some guests can be over the top as with any customer service position.

ProsGreat place to work for a high school kid. Great people. Young management. Good perks to the business too.

ConsNot the best place to work after high school unless you get into Management. Dealing with people always has its ups and downs too.

Good company overall. Always expanding, acquiring and opening additional theaters.

Senior Assistant Manager (Current Employee) Cleveland, OH

ProsFun, high-energy environment. Fun staff and managers...easy to make friends at work. Flexible scheduling, free movies.

ConsLow pay. Very big difference in pay between senior assistant manager and general manager, yet senior assistant does as much or more as far as running the building. Only way to make a decent living is to be a general manager but those spots are very hard to get because so many SAMS apply for the few that are available each year. The excuse they give for not paying SAMs and AMs better is that they want them to aspire to be GMs---but so few GM opportunities exist and it is extremely difficult to get promoted to GM due to the large amount of applicants.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay better across the board. Why pay staff just minimum wage or barely above and managers not much more than floor staff? Funny how when the minimum wage is higher in a city or state, there is no problem paying that and staying in business, but this company (and most others) need to be forced to pay higher wages by local minmum wage laws rather than doing the honorable thing in the first place and pay a living wage.

    I hate it here

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWe get free movies and popcorn when we come see a movie. But these are literally the only few perks we have.

ConsI get paid minimum wage to stand behind a counter for 7 hours at a time and deal with customer who are some of the worst I have ever had to deal with even considering the fact that when you go to a movie theater it is supposed to be a happy and fun experience. The managers at my location are not well trained and my GM is horrible at leading us crew members. We have to wait until Thursday night or even until early Friday morning to receive our schedule from our GM. Heck, I even remember waiting 45 minutes for my interview. Not to mention the equipment is old and we constantly have equipment that need repairs.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the crew feel motivated and happy to be at work to the best of your ability. Don't do what my management team is doing and try to constantly point out what we are doing wrong in an attempt to fix it. This just frustrates us and we lose motivation.
