I worked at Cinepolis full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free movies (2 passes a month), great floor staff, good hours if you're a good employee

    Cons

Horrible management, terrible pay, extravagantly high expectations, no real sense that anyone cares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a luxury cinema you would think employees would be held to a higher standard. This is difficult to do when they pay minimum wage for a LUXURY cinema. They expect that people will kiss their feet for giving anyone a job. It's 2014, recession is over, people have options. The bar staff is dressed the same as the other employees, a distinction any real place with class makes sure to differentiate. The food is an abomination and a disgrace to any restaurant, the staff does the best they can with what they have but are not allowed to use any other seasoning besides salt and pepper (what). Prices are high for the quality they are serving. The only reason I recommend this place for employment is they are literally always looking for employees and if you become a server or runner, you gain tips and the hours are semi-flexible. Bottom line: Stop penny pinching invest in quality over quantity. There is a reason the employment turnover rate is one of the highest I've ever seen in a company.

    Mismanaged high-end theater

I worked at Cinepolis full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Luxury facilities offer a premium movie experience and nice location to work.
Free employee moving showings on a weekly basis was the only job perk, just don't misbehave or else the benefit will be taken away for all employees.

    Cons

Salary is below average compared to other theater chains.
Cast member employees are second class citizens compared to servers.
Servers are not held to the same level of responsibility as cast members and kitchen crew even though they make much more money.
The work environment was very immature overall from all branches of employees, including management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within for management positions, and if you must hire outside the company, give new managers a proper level of training before they start. Its poor for employees to have to take time out of their work to train a manager for you on the basic day to days of how the business runs.
Don't hire high school drop-outs who spend their day on their cell phone to hold management positions.

    Pros

    A great concept
    An energetic staff
Acceptable pay v. work if you are just getting started in management

    Cons

Too many chiefs not enough indians...so to speak
    Terrible staffing issues
Unrealistic shift management expectations (picture a chef: seating guests, taking orders, cooking, putting away stock and washing dishes...and trying to manage)
Horrendous moral problems (stems from the overall treatment of employees as cattle)
A good server makes decent $$$. Manager's avg about $14.50 an hour. Figure that out.
Food is all terribly overpriced, for what you get. $17 for a hamburger...really
Unless you can walk on water the chances of making bonus are about the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I now make $70hr for this type of advice...they missed the boat.

I worked at Cinepolis part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

They were pretty understanding with schedules. Employees other than management were friendly for the most part.

    Cons

If you aren't a server you make minimum wage, which is expected going into it, however if you have any skills beyond a GED do NOT work here, you can do better. Management is based on favorites or selected at random it seems, and many of the people have no schooling in business, management training, or even a college degree for that matter. All the repercussions of untrained management came along with it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who actually qualify to work those positions. There were plenty of smart, nice, deserving, college educated people that I witnessed while working there that I felt could have handled those roles much better, however they were overlooked and friends/ favorites were put into these positions instead. Also, hearing numerous rumors (not saying true or untrue) about managers involved in explicit things outside of work did not make me faithful in their abilities. So unprofessional.

Servers get a lot of money in tips

If you're not a server, you only earn minimum wage

    I worked at Cinepolis full-time

    Pros

-Lots of hours/chances for overtime during the winter and summer
-Great tips if you're a server
    - Other departments get tipped out as well

    Cons

    - If you are not a server, you do not exist to management unless they are reprimanding or firing you
    - Total lack of passion for the product from management does away with any pride you might take in your job
    - No apparent interest in resolving harassment complaints if they're aimed at management
    - If you report anything to HR, don't expect to remain anonymous
    - So many employees, including supervisors, are such vacuous simpletons that you may actually grow dumber the longer you work here

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find jobs in something you actually care about. Take an ethics class, pay attention at the next harassment seminar, and actually read your state's laws on food handling and safety for a change.

I worked at Cinepolis part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Typically lots of hours (at least during busy season)
Free movie tickets (though these have become limited to 2/month)
    Awesome 50% discount on food
    Helpful/competent management

    Cons

Must be available (and will almost definitely be working) nights/weekends/holidays
Not a lot of room for advancement/raises
Can be a very hectic/loud environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More opportunity for advancement/raises would be awesome. More cross-training so people from different areas can pitch in effectively during busy times would also be great.

Lack of leadership and direction from top management. Priority is always towards bottom line profit, not quality service

Current Employee - Corporate Employee in Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Cinepolis full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-2 weeks PTO after a year of employment
-Benefits include medical, dental and vision.
    -Free movie tickets

    Cons

    -Complete lack of work-life balance.
-Company does not support continuing education (courses, certification, etc).
    -Lack of structure and responsibilities.
-Lack of leadership and direction from top management.
    -No opportunity for growth.
-Theaters and lower end corporate employees are way underpaid, at least 15% less than market average.
-All activities and projects have to be directed towards increasing bottom line profit, not improving operations or quality of customer service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Focus on improving food operations and customer service.
-Not everything has to be revenue focused.
-Understand that processes which worked in other countries don't necessarily work in the US.
-People have higher expectations on customer service and know when they're being undersold. Improve your kitchen operations and quality of menu items and hygiene.
-Support personal development and growth, invest in your people.
-Plan ahead at least 1 year in advance, everybody's always putting out fires.
-Change the culture in the company, the "if you don't like it you're fired" mentality will always affect morale.

    Pros

The movie theater experience is amazing. Got to watch free movies and now no other movie theater can compare. The employees are really friendly and make the long shifts fun.

    Cons

Long hours of standing. Really boring on slow days

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know better when more staff is needed and when fewer staff is needed. There have been times when there are too little people working during rushes, and too many people standing around on slow days.
